About the role
We are looking for a Mid-Level Back End Software Engineer to work on our Boots Online Doctor healthcare platform. This is suited to an engineer looking to contribute to the development of our internal applications. You'll join us at an exciting time as we build our engineering team, working on exciting projects within an amazing team of dedicated people.
What you'll do:
1. Develop new features and functionality on internal and external systems using PHP 7/8 onwards
2. Leverage security and best practices when writing code
3. Deliver and support the implementation of projects
4. Build strong relationships with peers and relevant business stakeholders both in Boots and Boots Digital Health
5. Proactively participate in design and code reviews to ensure quality and consistency across the product
6. Provide support and conduct root cause analysis to investigate issues and bugs in existing code
7. Maintain high-quality documentation
What you'll need to have
1. Previous experience in development including in component-based architecture
2. Experience building highly scalable apps with reusable components
3. Knowledge of building and consuming RESTful and non-RESTful APIs
4. Solid understanding of headless web applications
5. Understanding of object-oriented PHP programming using SOLID principles
6. Previous experience in development using the LAMP stack
7. Understanding of the importance of unit and functional testing and ability to write tests
8. Strong knowledge of PHP web frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter, etc.
9. Familiarity with Git version control
10. Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, RDS, SQS, SNS, S3, etc.)
11. Excellent MySQL 5 and 8 skills, both with and without modern frameworks (e.g., Eloquent)
12. Comfortable working on legacy code and refactoring
13. Familiarity with PSR coding styles and tools such as CS-Fixer, PHPStan
14. Experience working with CI/CD pipeline tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins
15. Ability to write and maintain clear and high-quality documentation
16. Experience working in teams using Agile/SAFE Agile/Scrum methodologies
It would be great if you also have
* Experience working in the healthcare industry
* Enjoy knowledge sharing and mentoring team members
* Knowledge of GoLang and creating AWS Lambdas
* Documentation experience with Confluence
* Automated Testing skills: Cypress, Playwright, etc.
* Experience with Docker
