Overview of role
The successful candidate for this role will work within a Data Centre Operations team, the primary purpose of this function is to contribute to the continuous running of the DVLA Data Centres that underpin DVLA services together with three Communications rooms, that contain production infrastructure.
You will ensure that services are delivered as required. Working with and supporting colleagues across ITS such as Networks, NOCSOC, Storage and Engineering Services and the wider agency to maintain and support infrastructure services.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1. Hardware Installation Planning & Asset Inventory (Audits / Design)
2. Hardware Installation
3. Infrastructure cabling (Datacentre and office space)
4. Cable testing /fault finding (fibre/copper)
5. Data Centre Access Management
6. Routine Visual Checks
7. Operations Policies and Procedures
8. Proactive advice and guidance as to the optimal configuration of the environments (cooling/airflow)
9. Management of Data Centre (Infrastructure) Stores including disposals
10. Data centre capacity planning
11. Management and resolution of hardware faults

Candidates are required to work a shift pattern covering mornings and evenings. The function covers 06:00 � 14:00 hours and 14:00 � 22:00, Monday to Friday and an indicative shift allowance of is applicable.

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.
Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). We would encourage you to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process.

You will have fantastic communication skills and be confident in communicating technical information to a variety of audiences.
You must be adaptable, and able to use your initiative to undertake work and make effective decisions with ability to problem-solve to find timely solutions. You will be able to work well under pressure, and used to restructuring priorities when the need arises.
