A leading provider of technically differentiated electronic components is looking for an R&D Engineering Manager with RF/Microwave Product experience for their office in Salisbury, Maryland.
Job Description:
Provides leadership and direction to the RF/Microwave Product Engineering Department; establishes engineering strategies that ensure sound engineering procedures, customer satisfaction, and achieve growth and excellence in design and manufacture of product; develops pro-active technological roadmaps to support long term business growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Establishes local department goals in conjunction with site management, manufacturing team, and Global Engineering Director.
2. Develops a long-term technology roadmap in the field of RF components (RF filters, isolators and circulators, power dividers and combiners, multi-functional assemblies, etc.) focused on innovation in materials, manufacturing processes and product designs.
3. Leads employees using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to engage employee contribution with goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.
4. Manages resource capacity including assignments, training, leave management, telecommuting and administers continuous performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the local department.
5. Develops and manages technical core competencies within attributed portfolio of products.
6. Leads the development/enhancement of new/existing manufacturing processes and coordinates troubleshooting processing problems and makes decisions to correct.
7. Manages and reviews analyses of activities, budgets, costs, and forecasts to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
8. Prepares periodic operating reports highlighting innovation, team performance and resilience.
9. Prepares proposals to broaden and/or deepen core competencies biased towards top-line growth.
10. Collaborates with Human Resources to plan and execute appropriate staffing decisions to create/sustain technical competitiveness.
11. Works with Operations to implement manufacturing processes into new design, technology and product development.
12. Collaborates with Operations on the development/enhancement of new/existing manufacturing processes and aids troubleshooting processing problems and makes recommendations to correct.
13. Develops and maintains effective budgetary controls.
14. Monitors progress of projects, confers with engineers, and reviews status to see that development is progressing according to schedule and directs the engineering staff in their professional development.
15. Compliance and participation in all Smiths EHS programs, policies, procedures and training requirements.
16. Works with external collaborators (e.g. universities) when warranted to support long term technical roadmap, and manages IP stemming out of these partnerships.
The Individual:
1. Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; significant experience in engineering management; strong engineering management abilities in a manufacturing setting.
2. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills who defines strategic issues clearly and proven ability to effectively delegate and lead.
3. Strong knowledge of all aspects of engineering.
4. Curiosity and ability to learn and expand into new technical areas.
5. A team player with strong organizational skills and ability to proactively interface with the senior leadership team.
6. Ability to organize work to achieve maximum efficiency and ability to prioritize and plan to achieve set goals along with successfully evaluating strategic options and opportunities.
