We are recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a leading practice in Colchester on a hybrid basis (2-3 days in the office, some site visits, and working hours are flexible). You will be working in a consultancy company driven by quality of service and high standards for details. From day one, you will receive full support, training, and coaching from an existing supportive team. The role will involve providing Surveying services across a range of sectors including defense, blue light, education, healthcare, and commercial clients with projects ranging from £500k to £15m in size. The selected candidate will be engaged to manage the cost control of projects from initial budget advice, cost planning, procurement and contract selection, tender action and analysis, preparation of contracts, financial control through construction, settlement of final accounts, and release of retentions. Ideally, you will be 2 years qualified but if not, there will be the option to work with like-minded surveyors and work to complete the pathway to MRICS chartership with the benefit of APC. Key duties: Accept instructions from clients Help produce outline cost plan and budgets adapted to suit client requirements Work with other design team members to help inform the design from a cost perspective; prepare an updated monthly project cash flow if required. Assess tenders and make recommendations to clients by providing a tender analysis. Act as a support to the Project Manager where required on projects by attending site for Pre-Start and Project Meetings to advise on costings. When appropriate inspect works on site ensuring that the quantum of work and cost performance has been achieved and authorise payments to contractors accordingly. Plan expenditure is controlled and schemes are completed within budget and on time. Essential skills, experience, and attributes… Degree in Quantity Surveying with 2 years experience. Full Chartered membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or willingness to obtain full Chartered status if not already achieved (working towards APC for MRICS) Knowledge/understanding of both traditional and modern construction techniques and materials.
