Lead Accountant
Pertemps are currently recruiting for a Lead Accountant on behalf of our client in Shifnal, Shropshire.
The successful candidate will have a client-centred approach and will be able to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Hours: Mon-Fri - 36.25 hours per week | Office based.
Salary: £34,000 - 36,000 per annum DOE.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Company Accounts and Tax lead for the practice.
2. Work with small UK & Base team to progress WIP & hit targets set by Practice Manager.
3. Process client paperwork and use information supplied to prepare final accounts and corporate/personal tax returns to be reviewed by partner.
4. Work with spreadsheets, sales and purchase ledgers, and journals.
5. Prepare statutory accounts, dividend warrants, completed corporation tax returns, and self-assessment returns.
6. Calculate and check to ensure payments, amounts, and records are correct.
7. Manage juniors and ensure they deliver tasks to a high standard and to deadlines.
8. Deliver on targets outlined and agreed with Practice Manager.
9. Perform client risk assessments.
10. Communicate between client and BASE for all aspects of accounts.
11. Ensure all closing documentation, including cover letter and invoice, is raised for all accounts.
12. Prepare year-end individual tax returns & corporation tax returns for clients.
13. Coordinate accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies.
14. Prepare Year-end Accounts and Management Accounts.
15. Conduct regular monthly visits to clients for preparation of management accounts.
16. Oversee and finalise accounts prepared by team members.
17. Keep track of overall work in progress.
18. Communicate with clients.
19. Prepare a high-quality accounts & working papers file to support the financial statements.
20. Prepare and reconcile key control accounts.
21. Send year-end journals to clients.
22. Chase clients for invoice payments.
Ideal Candidate:
1. Understanding of Double Entry bookkeeping (essential).
2. Understanding of Payroll processes (preferred).
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Knowledge of systems (Sage/CCH/QuickBooks - preferred).
5. Strong understanding of Excel.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. High attention to detail.
8. ACCA or ACA qualified or equivalent (essential).
9. Previous experience of working in an accountancy practice (essential).
