Our active travel teams are recognised industry leaders, and have developed a reputation of producing high quality outputs for our clients. Our current portfolio of projects include both urban, city/town centre interventions and rural, linear route development schemes across Scotland and beyond. Some of our recent projects include: Accessible Ayr, Kilmarnock Infinity Loop, Granton Waterfront Development, Dundee Sustainable Transport Corridors. We work for a range of clients including national government agencies, local authorities, private developers and community groups. We use the latest design software and techniques to produce innovative and efficient design solutions for our clients with safety and sustainability at the forefront of our minds. This role can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. The successful candidate will help deliver a range of active travel and transport planning projects and contribute to business development. You'll support in the delivery of a wide variety of projects within our growing Active Travel team and you ll be involved in a range of activities from bidding through to client and stakeholder management and project delivery. This could include supporting with data analytics, feasibility studies, modelling, engineering design, transport appraisal, sustainable transport and contributing to monitoring and evaluation and behaviour change initiatives. What does the role involve? Working as a Transport Planner in the active travel team we'll offer you exposure to project work within all stages of design development/pre-construction, from inception through to detailed design. Typically the work is for a range of public sector clients covering activities related to transport planning, sustainable travel and engineering design. Core duties will include: Preparation of feasibility studies to assess constraints, risks, opportunities and route and/or provision type options to identify an appropriate solution. Contributing to various active travel projects, such as production of business cases, sustainable travel, policy and strategy, and feasibility studies. Offering analytical support across all teams, leveraging existing capabilities or acquiring new skills as needed. Maintaining client communication to ensure project delivery aligns with their objectives and requirements. Ensuring the technical accuracy of all work completed within agreed timelines and budgets. Facilitating effective stakeholder management and engagement through clear communication, ensuring that all parties are informed and involved throughout the project lifecycle. Adhering to the Company s Integrated Management Systems (IMS) and current H&S legislation requirements. Providing technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, and assisting in the mentoring and development of team members where possible. Ensuring deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets. Ensuring that solutions meet client needs and expectations are met/exceeded. Collaborating closely with colleagues from other disciplines as necessary. Participating in the preparation and presentation of proposals and bids, including estimating timescales and costs for proposed works. You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce and be fully committed to your professional development through a mix of our in-house training opportunities and engaging with professional institution activities. You will work as part of a diverse and collaborative team to collectively identify and develop solutions to our clients problems. To be successful in this role you ll possess: A degree in a relevant discipline, with a commitment to developing technical skills and progressing towards recognition as a Transport Planning/Engineering Professional (CTPP, ICE qualification or equivalent). A background in transport planning and design, contributing to high-profile projects, with knowledge in areas such as business case development, scheme feasibility, transport assessments, strategies and modelling. Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management, engagement, public consultation, and the development of effective communication strategies to ensure successful project outcomes. Experience of preparing and/or assuring business cases following HM Treasury Green Book and DfT TAG guidance for public sector customers. Excellent written communication skills, with proven experience in producing clear and effective reports. Sound knowledge of design in accordance with Cycling by Design and LTN 1/20 Cycle Infrastructure Design A good understanding of regulations and guidance such as Manual for Streets, DMRB, TSRGD, MCHW and Traffic Signs Manual. A creative, solution-oriented mindset that considers multiple perspectives to solve problems. The capacity to manage tasks efficiently, ensuring outputs meet programme, budget, and quality controls, while being adaptable to handle a varied workload and embrace new technologies. The confidence to present design solutions and progress both internally and externally to clients and stakeholders. A strong interest in emerging technologies, innovative techniques and processes, and a desire to integrate these innovations into active travel practices. What s in it for you?
