Job Description:
This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and shape our commercial presence in the UK transport and FTL market. As our Senior Sales Manager, you will have the unique chance to develop our sales function from scratch, reporting directly to the Country Director and Product Director.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Market Development
1. Research and analyze the UK FTL market landscape, identifying key segments and competitor positioning.
2. Develop a comprehensive go-to-market sales strategy to penetrate and capture market share.
3. Establish pricing frameworks that balance competitiveness with profitability.
Lead Generation & Business Development
1. Proactively identify and engage potential clients for FTL services across the UK.
2. Build an initial prospect database utilizing networking, industry events, targeted outreach, and B2B digital marketing techniques.
3. Represent our brand at trade shows, conferences, and relevant industry events to raise awareness and generate opportunities.
Full Sales Cycle Management
1. Lead the entire sales process from initial contact through to contract closure.
2. Create and deliver compelling service presentations tailored to client needs.
3. Develop customized proposals that address specific logistics requirements.
4. Negotiate rates, service terms, and contracts ensuring profitability and operational alignment.
Client Relationship Building
1. Establish strong, trust-based relationships with key clients.
2. Understand clients' evolving logistics needs to ensure service satisfaction and foster loyalty.
3. Develop a reputation for reliability that encourages client referrals and testimonials.
Internal Collaboration
1. Work closely with Operations, Pricing, and Customer Service teams to ensure service viability and successful implementation.
2. Maintain fluid communication across departments to deliver seamless client experiences.
Performance Tracking & Reporting
1. Track key performance indicators including conversion rates and revenue generation.
2. Provide regular reporting and accurate forecasting to management.
Minimum Requirements
1. Proven track record (5+ years) as a Sales Manager or Business Development Manager in the logistics/transport sector, with specific experience in FTL services within the UK.
2. In-depth knowledge of the UK ground transport and FTL market including key players, routes, pricing structures, trends, and regulations.
3. Established network of contacts within the UK logistics industry and/or with shipping companies.
4. Demonstrated ability to build a commercial function or client portfolio from the ground up.
5. Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
6. Results-oriented with strong initiative and ability to work autonomously.
7. Willingness to travel throughout the UK as required.
Desired Qualifications
1. Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.).
2. Knowledge of complementary transport modes (LTL, intermodal).
3. University degree in Business Administration, Logistics, International Trade, or related field.
