Job overview
We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our well-established team of clinical pharmacists, providing a comprehensive and high quality clinical pharmacy service across the Trust’s medical and surgical services.
Main duties of the job
The post will be initially based within the surgical team providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of surgical specialities across the trust. You will join a team of experienced pharmacists and technicians covering the directorates of General Surgery, Urology, Musculoskeletal Services, Neurosciences and ENT / Plastics / Ophthalmology / Dermatology. The postholder will be given the responsibility for a variety of clinical areas under the supervision of the lead clinical pharmacist for the specialist area, with opportunities to periodically rotate through these areas.
You will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings where appropriate, and also provide support and training to nursing staff, pharmacy technicians and junior pharmacists. You will also help support senior pharmacy staff in promoting the safe, effective and economic use of medicines via audit and guideline development.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Trust strives to be at the forefront of surgical and medical services, and as a tertiary care centre provides the opportunity for involvement in several specialist areas. This post will support, and further augment, our clinical pharmacy service to both RVI and Freeman sites on a rotational basis. Attendance at consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings is required.
* To develop and maintain clinical pharmacy services in a specialist area or directorate within the overall Trust clinical pharmacy strategy.
* To promote the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines by working closely with nursing and medical staff and health care managers.
* To perform the professional role of a Registered Pharmacist, including advice, supervision and co-operation with colleagues.
* To support patients to achieve their health goals in relation to medicines by providing person-centred care.
Person specification
Knowledge
* Demonstrable evidence of competence in general clinical practice.
* Demonstrable evidence of competence in speciality.
Skills
* Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options.
* Ability to communicate in a verbal or written manner with patients, junior pharmacy, nursing, medical, and other multidisciplinary staff.
* Demonstrated commitment to enhancing the quality of patient care.
* Teaching skills.
Experience
* Significant post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy.
* Experience of working in a hospital environment.
* Demonstrable post-graduate experience in pharmacy.
* Experience of working with specialist patient cohort.
Qualifications
* UK-registered pharmacist (GPhC).
* Completion of MPharm degree plus pre-registration training and experience.
* Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy, or satisfactory evidence of equivalent competence.
