An exciting opportunity has arisen, and we are looking for a highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our ever-expanding and hardworking surgery team.
The successful applicant will be required to work independently, within the scope of their professional boundaries, to assess and manage patients.
Main duties of the job
The HCA duties include venepuncture (phlebotomy), blood pressure management, administering IM injections, performing ECGs, wound dressings, removal of stitches/clips, and health promotion. We actively invest in our workforce, and we are able to offer training for additional roles when required to meet service needs.
About us
You will be joining our friendly dynamic team of 8 Doctors, approximately 9,200 patients, set in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons National Park). We are an EMIS Web practice with a full range of enhanced services.
Our high-performing team includes Nurses, HCAs, Pharmacists, and Pharmacy Technicians. We also host on-site a District Nursing team, Health Visitors, and a Community Mental Health Nurse. You will also be supported by our excellent reception and admin team. We are a training practice for final year medical students.
Salary is negotiable and dependent on previous experience. We are able to offer membership of the NHS Pension Scheme.
The position is for part-time (21 hours) but we are flexible for the right candidate.

Job responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the Practice Nursing team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Lead Practice Nurse, GP, and/or Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels:
1. Performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples, ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
2. Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
3. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
4. Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible.
5. Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with Practice procedure.
6. Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
7. ECG recording.
8. BP recording and reporting.
9. Dressings of wounds under the direction and guidance from the Practice Nurse.
10. Recording and actioning of patients who DNA their appointment.
11. Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.
12. Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation.
13. Emergency equipment and medication vaccine re-stocking and checking.
14. Cleaning own consulting rooms including managing clinical waste.
15. Re-stocking consulting rooms including ordering of stock where appropriate.
16. Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations.
17. Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being.
18. Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.
19. Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.
20. Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.
21. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
22. Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues.
23. Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
* Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.
