Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services, is currently recruiting for a Strategic Buyer on behalf of a highly reputable company in the energy and gas turbine industry. This is a 6 month initial contract with potential to be extended to be based at their Lincoln office on a hybrid basis. Previous experience as a Strategic Buyer in Engineering or Manufacturing industries would be ideal.
The Strategic Buyer will play a key role in developing and defining the sourcing strategy for the assigned commodities, ensuring a clear approach that prioritizes competitive, reliable, and future-proof supplier options for long-term supply. They will collaborate with global operational sourcing teams to communicate and align the strategy, guiding sourcing activities towards the strategic goals. As a key contributor to the commodity strategy, the Strategic Buyer will participate in commodity circles or multidisciplinary peer groups, driving the execution and continuous improvement of the strategy. They will also take the lead in negotiating major supply agreements and contracts, leveraging market expertise to secure the best value for the business.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage the commodity or commodities for respective areas of responsibility.
2. Define local Ecosystem strategy in their respective area of responsibility with cross functional counterparts and support from GCMs and in alignment with business.
3. Ensure transparency on cost structures and spend in area of responsibility via Commodity Circles.
4. Create and implement business specific initiatives and measures based on respective commodity strategy in alignment with Ecosystem strategy and business objectives.
5. Increase Managed Spend in the area of responsibility by safeguarding awarding's following the defined commodity strategy.
6. Maintain competitive supply base in alignment with Ecosystem strategy and Commodity Circle.
7. Execute periodic strategic procurement activities - negotiations planning, commodity strategy updates, awarding strategy and sourcing board approvals, quarterly review meetings, etc.
8. Prepare, negotiate, award and make available frame contracts & price lists for strategic suppliers in accordance with business and market requirements (in alignment with GCM).
9. Manage the relationship with assigned strategic suppliers (in alignment with GCM).
10. Generate, document and implement savings measures, monitor and report relevant KPI.
11. Drive early procurement / supplier involvement and cost out activities via respective Commodity Circles.
12. Identify procurement risks and opportunities and implement respective measures.
13. Feedback supplier market information and knowledge to stakeholders through network.
14. Drive supply/supplier management processes (e.g., qualification, selection, evaluation, development, classification).
Key Skills / Experience Required:
1. A degree in a relevant field or CIPS qualification.
2. Ideally have proven experience working as a Strategic Buyer in Manufacturing or Engineering industries.
3. Experienced operationally in Purchasing / Supply Chain.
4. Negotiations and supplier relations management experience.
5. Previous SAP experience would be ideal - extracting data for historical prices (open to train).
6. Commercial knowledge, contract law and T&C.
7. Cost & risk management skills.
8. Commodity & product knowledge.
9. Strategic thinking and analytical skills.
10. Strong Communication & interpersonal skills.
11. Know-how of procurement related processes, systems and tools.
