The Opportunity
Our projects are diverse and range from conceptual fire strategy development through to handing over landmark projects, such as the Tate Modern, Macallan distillery, Birmingham New Street Station, and the Eden Project. We undertake fire safety research to develop evidence-based solutions for novel fire safety hazards and strive to find ways to improve safety equity for the most vulnerable. We do this for our clients, in partnership with academia and industry, applying our ‘total fire engineering' approach, allowing us to work on projects from feasibility to operation. We strive to enable a sustainable, resilient built environment, using the latest knowledge and expertise, assisted by our own in-house digital tools and software.
We're looking for graduates to join our team of over 120 talented fire engineers across our UK offices. Your role will encompass all aspects of fire safety engineering, ranging from preparing fire strategies in coordination with the engineering design team to the inspection and assessment of fire safety management and protection measures in existing buildings and facilities.
As part of this, you will have the opportunity to liaise with external designers and other construction and building professionals on a wide range of projects, experience and develop your ability to use fire-specific design software, conduct research in various skill groups, and visit sites to monitor the implementation of fire strategies and learn about the installation and construction of fire safety systems. From day one, you'll be given responsibility to help contribute to a range of varied and high-profile clients while being supported in learning about fire engineering and developing as a fire engineer. We encourage all employees to work towards a professional qualification, and you will be given support in this endeavor as well.
Is this role right for you?
For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
* Master's or bachelor's degree with a prediction of a 2:2 or above in a relevant subject necessary to obtain engineering chartership, such as: Fire Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Surveying, or Applied Mathematics.
* We will consider Architectural degrees with relevant fire safety modules; however, the focus of the role will be in the engineering discipline as opposed to pure design.
* Excellent written English, with the ability to provide evidence/examples of your own work if requested.
* Strong numerical skills.
* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Creative approach to problem-solving.
* Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team.
* Demonstrate an organized approach to work and meeting deadlines.
* Able to use your own initiative, be inquisitive, and proactive.
We're looking for people who are curious and ready to evolve how you think and work. Our strength comes from how we respect, share, and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same while having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients – we'd like to hear from you.
You should be able to start this opportunity in September 2025.
