Job overview
The Recovery Team, as part of the Gloucester Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, provides a specialist service for adults of working age with severe and enduring mental health needs.
Under the supervision of registered practitioners, assist in the provision of care and treatment to service users in a community setting, in line with the principles of social inclusion and recovery, and the ‘Capabilities for Inclusive Practice’.
* To provide support to an allocated group of service users with more complex needs and thus promote their recovery and maintain them in their community environment. To assist the care coordinator in the implementation of all aspects of care and treatment.
* To facilitate access to activities to meet the needs of service users within community settings.
Main duties of the job
* Under the supervision and direction of senior practitioners, develop therapeutic relationships with clients and carers within appropriate and transparent boundaries.
* To engage service users effectively with the agreed care plan and to ensure access to appropriate services is obtained on a needs-led basis.
* To promote social inclusion and recovery in all aspects of planned care with a commitment to empowerment and promoting independence within a climate of safe practice.
* Participate in the provision of identified group work.
* Plan and organize your own daily work activities in an effective and efficient way.
* Feedback to the team and others involved in the care, information regarding any changes observed in the client’s mental state or social circumstances, any immediate risks, and take appropriate action.
* To deliver medication and facilitate well-being by supporting with Outpatient Appointments/Bloods/Physical Examinations, etc.
* To maintain accurate service user records in line with the Trust policy.
* To identify barriers to social inclusion and work to resolve the issues.
* To build partnerships with other community agencies.
* To respond sensitively to the cultural norms of differing communities.
* Attend and participate in identified training and the staff appraisal process.
* Comply with, and be aware of, Trust policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Health Care Assistant/Support Worker, you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care/services to patients and service users as part of a Mental Health and Social Care Health Service. Health Care Assistants, Social Care Workers, and other Healthcare Support Workers employed by the Trust are required to follow the guidance set out in the Code of Conduct for Health Care Assistants/Health Care Support Workers to provide safe and compassionate care of a high standard, and to challenge others who are not.
You will receive direct supervision and partake in reflective practice/training on a regular basis and be required to meet the Care Certificate standards. All successful applicants will also have the opportunity to discuss the prospect of undertaking a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship alongside their substantive post. This apprenticeship would include the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare.

Person specification
EXPERIENCE
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of competency-based training in a relevant health or social care area.
LENGTH AND / OR NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
* Experience of working in a mental health setting.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Community experience in a mental health setting.
* Experience of group/team working.
* Knowledge and understanding of using a Recovery-based approach to care.
* Knowledge and understanding of social inclusion approach.
* Clinical skills training (awareness of physical health and wellbeing).
* Awareness of issues of diversity.
