Job summary The Wiltshire Wheelchair Service are recruiting a full time Wheelchair Technician. This role could be a Band 3 development role for someone looking to gain skills and experience in this area or a Band 4 technician with experience in medical device maintenance. Experience of working in a similar role is preferred but full training will be given. A compassionate approach to working with people with reduced mobility is essential. You will work alongside our highly skilled and experienced Delivery and Repair Team (DART) to support the wheelchair service, collaborating effectively with the workshop, admin and clinical teams. Main duties of the job On a daily basis, your responsibilities will include driving throughout Wiltshire in a large van which is equipped for carrying out repairs and planned preventative maintenance (PPM). You will hand over manual and powered wheelchairs to clients with varying health conditions and disabilities. There will be regular use of hand tools such as spanners, Allen keys etc and use of power tools such as a drill and impact gun & regular VDU usage. You will promote a safe and tidy work environment, including the correct use of PPE for Infection Prevention and Control purposes and adhere to Health and Safety standards. You will complete these duties throughout Wiltshire in patient homes, in our workshop at Melksham Community Hospital (MCH) and other community settings. The team operate core hours 0830-1630 Monday to Friday and cover an emergency on call rota on Saturdays and bank holidays (typically 1 in every 6). Paid at 4.5% salary overtime. As a Band 3 looking to progress their technical skills and understanding, this role will allow opportunity to develop sound product knowledge of manual and electronically powered wheelchairs and accessories, their servicing and maintenance requirements.
