The Environmental Manager is responsible for overseeing the environmental & sustainability performance of the site and ensuring the treatment plant is operating within its permitted approved limits.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy.
2. Lead the implementation of environmental policies and practices including driving efficiencies in utilities, whilst working in collaboration with on-site departments.
3. Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and keep up to date with British & adopted European Legislation.
4. Liaise with relevant bodies such as the EA, local authority, and other public bodies.
5. Audit, analyse and report environmental performance to management and regulatory bodies.
6. Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
7. Implement best practice in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility and address any issues arising.
8. Develop and implement environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of the organisation on the environment.
9. Train staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities including the training of WWTP Operator to a high standard and create a training programme.
10. Participate in environmental education and research.
11. Effective management of wastewater treatment plant both in and out of hours, through managing of the WWTP Operator.
12. Maintain ISO 1400 standard active and updated at site level.
Knowledge and Experience:
1. Primary degree subjects such as environmental and earth sciences, environmental engineering, or relevant field; postgraduate degrees are increasingly required as specialization in particular fields are advantageous.
2. Strong interpersonal skills, and proven ability to work in a collaborative and influential manner with a range of colleagues.
3. Self-confident and decisive.
4. Demonstrate flexibility as on occasion work may be required outside regular hours or at weekends.
5. Dynamic, high energy, pro-active, people-focused approach.
6. Excellent written and oral communication skills – ability to present written reports and documents and influence and persuade at a senior level.
7. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
8. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure within a high-performance, fast-moving environment.
