Join our dedicated team as a Court usher at Exeter Law Courts \n\nPosition Details:\n\nEmployer: Brookstreet\n\nRole: Court Usher\n\nHours: 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, there is a possibility for flexi-time but you must to be on site during core hrs - 9.30-3.30\n\nDuration: Temporary assignment until 30/06/25, with potential for extension based on performance\n\nPay Rate: £11.44/hr for the first 12 working weeks, after that its going up to £12.07/hr\n\nLocation: Exeter Law Courts, Southernhay Gardens, Exeter, EX1 1JL\n\nStart Date: ASAP, vetting pending\n\nWhy Join Us?\n\nRelevant Experience: Enhance your resume with hands-on experience in a legal environment.\n\nProfessional Growth: Gain invaluable skills and knowledge that align with your academic pursuits.\n\nSupportive Team: Benefit from regular management support and opportunities for professional development.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nWork environment in a multi-jurisdictional court\n\nEnsuring parties are ready for court hearings, calling on cases in the court room, ensuring customers make contact with solicitors\nSwear in Juries, make sure Jurors enter court room.\nLiaise with Barristers and Judiciary to ensure cases are ready to be heard.\nBasic admin duties, answering calls and post duties.\nMulti-jurisdictional court Usher - acting as first point of contact for all court users involved in hearings which involves:\nRegular contact with judiciary\nMeet members of public and legal representatives\nPrepare courts/hearing rooms\nEnsuring court runs smoothly/efficiently\nAssisting Admin staff with smooth flow of work\nAbility to react quickly and professionally to situations, some of which may be unexpected, whilst working within regulated guidelines.\nDeal sensitively and professionally with people from all walks of life; many of whom may be vulnerable and under stress.\nAbility to take a firm stance with those who may not understand or welcome procedures that need to be followed.\nTeam working but, with management support, be responsible for own time.\nIT literacy with ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook/Word/Excel) is essential. Court ushers are also required to use a variety of 'in-house' IT application and assist with operating other equipment, e.g. Video Links etc.
Skills and Qualifications:\n\nCommunication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.\n\nTeamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team.\n\nTech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
