Position Context:
Reporting to the Project & Engineering Manager
1. Design process plant instrumentation and electrical power systems in accordance with nationally recognised and company standards, including: Loop Design, System Panel design, Control system interfaces, PLC/DCS Interface design, Hardwired ESD design and Electrical Design.
2. Design medium and low voltage power distribution and controls, instrumentation/control system wiring, plant lighting, electrical heat tracing and the installation of process plant instrumentation.
3. Compile installation design packages and installation scopes of work.
4. Specification and procurement of instrumentation and electrical equipment.
5. Safety Integrity Level (SIL) appreciation and functional testing specification.
6. Supervision of installation, commissioning and testing.
7. Drawing up plans using computer-assisted engineering and design software, including AutoCAD.
8. Estimating material, construction and labour costs and project timescales.
9. Coordinating with technicians and craftspeople.
10. Making sure projects meet instrumentation, electrical and construction safety regulations.
11. Supporting day-to-day project E&I installation work and maintenance activities, including breakdowns/tasks.
12. Maintain quality control and produce quality pack documentation for modifications.
13. Support the Engineering team to ensure the installations are in compliance with Company processes and EH&S, design and maintenance standards.
14. Source materials and coordinate the management and control of the materials in the project stores.
15. Ensure legislative compliance with CDM, COSHH, LOLER, PUWER and DSEAR.
16. Provide technical support to incident investigations and hazard reviews.
17. Review and monitor compliance with safe work systems and procedures.
Required skills:
• Requires good organisational, leadership & management skills.
• Good communication, organisational and project management skills.
• Knowledge of hazardous area design and installation, especially Intrinsic Safety (IS).
• AutoCAD and Microsoft Office literate.
• Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles and practices.
• Minimum HNC qualification in relevant engineering discipline.
• Must have a good understanding of strategic planning and turnaround activities.
