Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. Today, in over 60 communities, we work with adults and young people providing mental health social care support, services in primary care, schools, and further education, among others.
These services, together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, and active living, inform our policy and campaign work to influence positive social change. SAMH is dedicated to mental health and wellbeing for all: with a vision of a society where people are able to live their lives fully, regardless of present or past circumstances.
Post: Support Worker 2 x 2
Ref: REC1579
Contract: Permanent
About the Role
The Support Worker 2 role is a flexible, multi-skilled role providing direct emotional wellbeing and practical support to individuals to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Working with people on a 1-2-1 or group basis, in people’s homes and communities, the support worker will work with individuals to identify their strengths, issues, and goals. They encourage individuals to recognise and use their existing strengths, facilitate building new skills to build momentum in independent living skills, self-management, personal recovery, and building capacity. Assessing individuals’ strengths and needs, the support worker will link people with meaningful supports within their community.
This work is about helping people to live well and achieve the things in life that really matter to them. We have roles available across our 24/7 care at home, housing support, and specialist mental health outreach services. These services are commissioned by Dundee Council and support people living with severe and enduring mental health issues and common co-morbidities, such as neurodevelopmental conditions, to live fulfilled lives and achieve their goals. This exciting opportunity will use recovery-focused interventions, supporting people to develop skills and positive support networks towards living an independent life in the community.
What we are looking for
Respect and dignity for the people who use our services is at the heart of everything we do. We will ask you to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme and register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We’re looking for people with great people skills who are honest, reliable, and resilient in challenging situations. Ideally, for this role, you will have experience supporting people with mental health problems, key-working, and case management.
Everyone we support is different, and we use individually tailored plans to help them to identify where their strengths lie and support them in the areas where they may need it. In this role, your attitude and personality matter as much as your skills and experience.
We are looking for initiative, compassion, energy, and determination, and the ability to motivate and inspire people who use our services to develop their skills and self-confidence and realise their aspirations. This is an exciting opportunity, and you will go home each day knowing you made a difference.
You will be allocated to a service base but may be required to work flexibly across other local area services.
What we will provide for you
You will work in a supportive environment and will be provided with a full induction and training opportunities. You will be given the chance to develop your knowledge and skills, as well as develop professionally. Some of our benefits include:
1. Fully funded SVQ qualification to meet the conditions of your SSSC registration
2. Reimbursement of PVG, Disclosure & SSSC annual fees and registration costs.
3. Funded continuous learning and development opportunities, access to over 100 courses online in addition to classroom and virtual training sessions
4. 30 days annual leave rising to 33 after 5 years’ service
5. 4 public holidays
6. 2 paid wellbeing days off per year to use on what matters to you.
7. Team wellbeing budgets
8. Workplace pension scheme
9. Life Assurance policy
10. Employee Assistance Programme
