We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our dynamic Critical Care Recovery (CCR) Service. This team is focused on providing individualised therapy assessment and rehabilitation to ICU survivors within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Our key aim is to enable individuals to regain independent physical function after having a prolonged stay in the Intensive Care Unit.
You will provide rehabilitation to individuals in ICU, HDU, and step-down wards on the Royal Infirmary Site. There is also a commitment to the CCR monthly outpatient follow-up clinic.
You will work closely with the CCR multidisciplinary team (including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Mental Health Team Members, CCR Nurses, and ICU Consultants). In this role, you will work across multiple wards and specialities on the Royal Infirmary site, making communication and flexibility key personal attributes.
Candidates must display evidence of excellent clinical reasoning in both a critical care and ward-based environment, as well as demonstrating an advanced ability to prioritise and discharge plan for a wide range of presentations. Previous experience of working in a rehabilitation setting and within critical care is essential. You should have experience in service development and be confident in supporting the ongoing quality improvement projects of our proactive multi-disciplinary team.
The range of conditions encountered and the requirement for excellence in leadership and team working in this post will allow the successful candidate to gain extensive and in-depth experience as a clinical band 7 physiotherapist. As the sole Physiotherapist in the team, advanced clinical reasoning and autonomous practice are essential for the role.
Physiotherapy Services support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision, and CPD opportunities.
There is a commitment to weekend working on the Major Trauma Rehabilitation weekend rota and the overnight on-call respiratory rota.
Applications for both full and part-time working will be considered.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part-time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37-hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Recruiting Board.
