Job Summary
To effectively manage delivery of the Interventional Radiology and fluoroscopy service at Northampton General Hospital and to provide information to assist the strategic direction of Interventional Radiology within the Trust. The postholder will ensure the provision of the highest standards of patient care and contribute to the management of the Radiology Department. This person will be working closely within a multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To ensure appropriate day to day provision of the interventional service within national timescales for diagnostic tests.
2. To ensure rosters are in place at all times for staff ensuring continuity of service provision.
3. Day to day management of Radiographers, admin & clerical staff, radiology assistants and students whilst working in the departments.
4. Provide clear clinical leadership for the day to day organisation of the service in accordance with professional and departmental protocols.
5. To carry out the full range of imaging duties within specialised area, to a consistently high standard.

Job Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
* To undertake all Interventional Radiology procedures as specified by the Radiology Department protocol and in accordance with IR(ME)R 2017.
* To ensure high imaging standards and to maintain the high level of patient care against national standards.
* To perform manual handling duties that will include lifting/moving patients, moving trolleys and chairs, moving/lifting equipment/ other items following suitable manual handling training.
* To ensure all patient imaging is recorded under the correct details and archived in accordance with IR(ME)R 2017 to allow diagnosis and future comparisons.
* To be accountable for own professional actions and to act as a role model within the department.
* Supervise Band 5 and Band 6 Radiographers, Link Grade Radiographers, student Radiographers, Trainee Assistant Practitioners and RDAs within the Interventional Radiology department.
* Evaluating request forms and deciding the appropriate protocol and examination.
* To site intravenous Cannulae for administration of IV medication pre, peri and post procedure.
Managerial Duties
* Contribute to the strategic service and business planning, including equipment purchase and future departmental development.
* Responsible for stock control and purchase of consumables and necessary equipment for the service within budgetary limits.
* Ensure Clinical Governance protocols are complied with, records are maintained as required and corrective action is taken where required.
* To produce and maintain examination protocols in conjunction with Consultant Radiologists.
* To formulate Operational policies and Departmental safety protocols.
* Attend Departmental management meetings.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc in Radiography or DCR or Equivalent
* HCPC registration
* Management training
Knowledge and Experience
* Considerable experience in interventional radiology
* Extensive experience of managing at a senior level
* Good understanding of NHS policies and strategy
* Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
Skills
* Strong leadership skill
* Excellent IT skills
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to meet deadlines
