The Head of Engineering is a key role in the Engineering Operations team, reporting directly to the Engineering Operations Director, with responsibility for leading and mentoring the automation engineering team in the design and realization of automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure that automation engineering projects are fit for purpose, delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
2. Ensure that the automation engineering projects delivered meet the expectations of the customer in terms of functionality, quality, and performance.
3. Provide technical direction to cross-functional teams to define automation project solutions ensuring all requirements are met.
4. Have a ‘practical design’ mindset so that solutions efficiently meet the specific requirements without being overly complex, overly costly, or include unnecessary features that don’t benefit Breathe.
5. Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of automated systems and processes, including mechanical design elements, controls system design, and PLC software design.
6. Provide on-site technical direction and leadership with the commissioning process ensuring timely and tidy project handover.
The Individual will
1. Have a proven track record in engineering management, particularly in automation systems.
2. Have either a strong project management or controls systems design background.
3. Have excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
4. Be self-motivated, hands-on, and hard-working with a ‘Can do’ attitude.
5. Be able to build trust by operating with integrity, discretion, and professionalism in the role.
6. Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a wide range of stakeholders.
7. Have effective time management and planning to prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met.
