CPI is delighted to be recruiting for a placement opportunity who will join the established and growing Colloid Science team within the based at NETPark in Sedgefield.
The Colloid Science team is a group with experience and knowledge from many industry sectors such as pharmaceuticals, home and personal care, agritech, food, feed & nutraceuticals, paints, coatings and inks, and lubricants. The team is made up of biochemists, chemists, physicists, and material scientists. Colloidal systems take various forms, such as sols, gels, emulsions, and aerosols. Key to a colloid science role is characterising key properties of these materials and understanding how these influence properties such as stability and rheology of formulations. This role is suitable for applicants with a broad range of backgrounds as colloids are an essential part of many formulations across various sectors/ industries, from food science to battery materials.
Future food systems and agritech are key strategic markets for CPI going forward. As the global population continues to grow, the demand for sustainable, nutritious, and accessible food is on the rise. Innovation in future food systems and agritech play a pivotal role in addressing this challenge, by revolutionizing the way we produce, distribute, and consume food.
The Role:
In this role, you will be assisting the Colloid Science team with:
1. The technical delivery of projects
2. Managing your own work plan to execute experimental work, including relevant measurement and analysis techniques to characterise properties relevant to formulation performance.
3. Interpreting and reporting experimental results for internal peer review.
4. Consistently delivering high-quality work, including during the operation of lab equipment, recording of data, documentation of decisions and reporting of results.
5. Maintaining safe working practices.
Some exciting projects the team have recently worked on are:
Biodegradable plastics inspired by nature, for nature
Edible ink formulation to enable personalised confectionary
Optimising formulations for 3D printed solid-state batteries
The person we are seeking
You will be studying towards (or have recently completed) a Degree in Physical Chemistry or a related field.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, have effective interpersonal skills and be willing to learn to gain hands on/ practical experience. The ideal candidate will be committed to, and actively seek opportunities to develop themselves within this new and exciting role.
This position would suit students whose course includes a sandwich year in industry, or those able to take a placement opportunity in industry between academic years.
