The project:
Due to our continued growth, we require a cost manager who will be responsible for advising across a full range of cost planning, project budgeting, forecasting, and strategic procurement services supporting the delivery of multiple fast-paced property investment programmes for a major Highstreet retail client.
This role sits in our consultancy business, specifically the commercial private sector, so the successful candidate will join our team of UK-wide cost managers delivering several different investment types including new store fit outs, extensions, refurbishments, planned asset renewals, and initiative roll outs.
As cost manager, you will have responsibility for cost and commercial management on projects ranging in value from £100k - £20m each. Supported by the senior cost manager and reporting into the Mace account and Mace cost and commercial lead. The successful candidate will support projects within a geographic area, ideally centred to your home location; however, some UK-wide or European travel should be expected.

You'll be responsible for:
* Conducting feasibility studies and benchmarking.
* Creating & monitoring budget investments across EMEA.
* Regularly updating the commercial documents on the client smart sheets platform, reporting directly to all client stakeholders.
* Managing, estimating, and cost planning activities, including taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan.
* Managing the procurement process, ensuring that all stages including pre-qualification, enquiry, analysis, selection, and contract preparation are performed effectively.
* Ensuring that post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively.
* Ensuring that cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively.
* Ensuring the production of monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client.
* Applying value management techniques at the outset of a project.
* Ensuring that final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
* Identifying opportunities to enhance cost management, value engineering, cost avoidance, and efficiencies.
* Being a key interface with the client, other consultants, and other key stakeholders at all project stages.
* Working alongside/within a seconded client team and interfacing into project delivery teams.
* Managing and building relationships with suppliers, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance.
* Marketing and business development duties including being mindful of the need to support the consultancy team in promoting Mace.
* Knowledge of the standard form of industry contracts.
* Assisting in the development of new business opportunities with existing and new clients.
You'll need to have:
* Ability to provide strong leadership within client and delivery teams.
* Monitoring and reporting across several accounts.
* Previous experience in a cost consultancy practice undertaking a similar role.
* Previous experience working with luxury, high street, and neighbourhood retail clients.
* Knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on contract administration.
* Knowledge of value engineering and life cycle costing.
* Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on capital planning, forecasting, and strategic procurement.
* Strong understanding of industry best practice.
* Previous experience of managing people and risk management.
* Experienced in the use of Excel including sortation formulas, pivot tables, graphs, etc. Understanding of the impact of wider industry hot topic issues such as sustainability, social value, carbon reduction.
