We are seeking to recruit a full time Patient Co-Ordinator to join our new team on Kingfisher ward here at the Great Western Hospital.
The Patient Co-ordinator will create a welcoming first point of contact for patients, their families and visitors accessing Kingfisher ward. They will undertake clerical work and provide reception duties for the ward as per standard systems and processes in order to support effective patient flow. They will need to work without direct supervision, using their own initiative when dealing with enquiries that arise. Close co-operation with a range of other administrative staff as well as the medical and nursing team is vital. The post demands the ability to communicate at all levels with patients, relatives and medical and nursing colleagues to maintain a high standard of customer service to meet the needs of the patient and their families.
Main duties of the job
1. To staff the Ward reception, creating a welcoming professional focal point of the ward for patients, families and visitors as well as colleagues, answering the telephone, dealing with queries, transferring calls and taking messages when needed.
2. To enable the patients, their families and visitors to enter and leave the ward promptly.
3. To keep the patient administration systems up to date and accurate at all times, including amending patient demographics, the input of admission, discharge, referral and transfer information, progress chasing patient referrals and tracking all health records to ensure their current location is recorded, as per Trust policy, case note maintenance, filing paperwork/loose history and liaising with Health Records.
4. Ensure admission and discharge book is kept up to date and accurate.
5. Ensure inbox is kept updated in real time via Medway.
6. Support staff working in Kingfisher Ward.
7. Ensure daily ward list has been completed and accurate.

Person Specification
Skills
* Keyboard skills and an aptitude to use IT systems
* Good telephone manner
* Ability to multitask and deal with non-routine situations
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
* Experience with dealing with people in sensitive situations
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level in English and Maths or overseas equivalent grade D or above
* NVQ level 2 in Customer Services / Business Administration / Team Leading
Experience
* Recent experience in customer focused environment
* In-depth IT and Admin skills
* Working knowledge of data protection and confidentiality
* Working to tight deadlines and managing conflicting priorities
* Knowledge of Medical Terminology
* To have previously worked in a medical, health or social care environment
