As a Community Care Worker, you will be responsible to look after the physical, emotional, cultural and social needs of Millennium Staffing Limited's service users using a person-centred approach. You should observe and promote the patient’s choice, independence, dignity, privacy, fulfilment and other rights and maintain good professional relationships with service users, their family and friends and other stakeholders. You should actively support other Care Workers and adhere to all regulatory and statutory obligations and policies, procedures and guidelines.
Duties of the job include:
- Providing personal care and support to every service user with a wide range of needs, illnesses and disabilities; Knowing and understanding the care and support of the service user.
- Undertaking the tasks detailed in the service user’s care and support plan using a person-centered approach and in the least intrusive way.
- Encouraging the independence and motivation of the service user and not fostering dependent behaviour;
- Providing input into the care and support plans of the service user by regularly feeding back to the Field Care Supervisor; Assisting service users in getting up in the morning and going to bed at night;
- Assisting service users to wash, bath and shower; Assisting service users to dress and undress;
- Assisting service users to look after their skin, teeth, hair and nails;
- Assisting service users with toileting, continence management and personal hygiene;
- Assisting service users with their medication at the agreed level of support and as detailed in their Medication Care Needs Assessment;
- Preparing food and drink for the service user, being aware of the service user’s choices/preferences, likes/dislikes, nutritional needs and cultural/personal dietary requirements;
- Providing light general household domestic duties, including housework and laundry, as detailed in the care plan or instructed by Management;
- Using manual handling equipment safely and correctly;
- Taking responsibility for the safe handling of property and equipment belonging to the service user;
- Maintaining good communication and develop effective working relationships with service users;
- Providing companionship to the service user, actively talking and listening to them about their interests;
- Helping the service user to maintain contact with their family and friends;
- Accompanying the service user on trips into the community; Assisting the service user to manage their personal affairs;
- Keeping the service user's living environment as safe as possible, whilst respecting the service user’s choice and rights.
Key Qualities:
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a healthcare role as a Care Worker
- Empathy and ability to relate to people from a wide variety of backgrounds Skills in communicating with tact and sensitivity
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- DBS clearance to work with vulnerable people
