Kings College Hospital (KCH) Emergency Department is a dynamic environment seeing approximately 130,000 patients a year. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Princess Royal University Hospital Emergency Department Practice Development Team as a Band 7 Practice Development Nurse. We are expanding our Education team to facilitate the support of all staff from Health Care Assistants through to Senior Sister/Charge Nurse roles. If you have a genuine passion for supporting the development and education of staff within this fast paced speciality, combined with experience of delivering clinical education across a range of modalities, we'd love to hear from you! Candidates should have proven clinical Emergency Nursing knowledge and skills with experience of leading teams on clinical shifts.

Main duties of the job
1. To maintain primary responsibility for ensuring the Care Group provides a progressive learning environment for all grades of nursing staff.
2. To support and coordinate the development of Health Care Assistants, TNA's, NA's and both pre- and post registration nursing students by co-ordinating educational activities and assessments of learning within the department.
3. To assist in the preparation of internationally educated nurses for their OSCE depending on specialist skills and area of expertise.
4. To support with statutory and mandatory training as required to ensure compliance within the Care Group and Trust wide (including, but not limited to, ALERT, ILS, ALS, PILS, EPLS, APLS, NALS)
5. To actively promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across the Care Group and Trust wide.
6. To provide effective role modelling and leadership by working clinically as per service needed and identified job plan clinical percentage
7. To act as the education and training lead for the specialist area of practice
8. To provide pastoral support, guidance and training to all stakeholders on all aspects or pre & post reg nursing / midwifery

9. Clinical Practice
10. To work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and Trust Policies and Procedures
11. To ensure that own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge and latest evidence based practice
12. To work clinically in all allocated wards and departments, working in accordance with an identified urgent need, supporting individual nurses and HCAs in developing their practice, and in response to specific issues raised at care group risk and governance level, including learning from serious incidents
13. To work within the 7 day service as required
14. To produce written accounts of each episode of clinical facilitation, documenting learning achieved and areas for further development
15. To demonstrate specialist nursing knowledge in clinical settings, and support the advancement of knowledge and skills using approved assessment procedures
16. To work effectively as part of the multi-professional, inter-disciplinary team, encouraging and supporting other health care professionals in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment
17. To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, thereby acting as a positive role model for nurses and other staff
18. To maintain effective working relations with colleagues at all levels and from all professions within the care group, ensuring effective communication at all times
19. To maintain accurate records of training undertaken by each member of staff.

21. To facilitate the learning and continuing development of all nursing staff within the department, ensuring that education is responsive to service developments
22. To develop and co-ordinate planned educational programmes and opportunities for all multidisciplinary nursing staff within the care group
23. To advise in relation educational opportunities and assist nurses in developing themselves in accordance with their personal development plan and/or appraisal objectives
24. To support nursing staff in developing clinical competency around specified skills, related to respective speciality
25. To create, sustain and support an environment where practice development and change can flourish
26. To support mentors and preceptors in their role, ensuring that learning opportunities are effectively utilised
27. To promote research awareness by, disseminating appropriate evidence-based and research findings relevant to the clinical practice area. To keep the Associate Director of Nursing Practice Development and Education informed of any new nursing research proposals, and on the progress of research studies approved by the Trust R&D and Ethics Committees
28. To work closely with HEI staff and the Associate Director of Nursing Practice Development and Education in contributing to the development and review of speciality-related nursing courses, and in the evaluation of relevant courses in order to help inform Education Commissioning
29. To work collaboratively with HEIs and other Trust colleagues on Education Quality Reviews in relation to the quality of the clinical learning environment, where applicable, Sim training, Trachy training, PANIC course for Paed
30. Management
31. To manage own time to ensure balance between clinical and administrative activities
32. To produce appropriate educational data or reports requested by Ward leaders, Matrons, Heads of Nursing
33. To lead in the process of ensuring multi disciplinary training to meet specific initiatives
34. To assist in the process of recruitment of nursing staff for the care group and in conjunction with colleagues, identify and implement educational strategies that support retention
35. To ensure all nursing staff receive a comprehensive and individualised induction and orientation package on commencement of post, including the identification of a named mentor/buddy
36. To actively participate in quality assurance strategies and audit
37. In conjunction with Senior Nursing colleagues identify and address the educational implications of audit findings and clinical incidents
38. To ensure compliance with the Trust's Equality and Diversity Policy, supporting the delivery of the Trusts Race Equality Scheme and the Trust's duty to positively promote race equality and equality of opportunity for disabled people ensuring services are responsive to the needs of equality groups
39. To make an active contribution to clinical governance strategies, particularly in relation to producing and/or reviewing nurse-led clinical guidelines
40. To be an active member of the Trusts Practice Development Forum
41. In conjunction with senior nursing colleagues provide direction for the ward/departments and ensure the achievement of identified goals
42. To manage the B6 CPF(s) in liaison with the Lead Nurse for PD

65. NMC Registered Nurse Level 1 or Level 15 depending on whether working with adults or children
66. A clinical expert either through formal qualification (degree) and/or extensive clinical experience pertinent to the area
