Description Role: Intern in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Caucus Grade and Salary: Grade 4, £23,881 (Pro-Rata) FTE and working pattern: Flexible Contract: Equivalent of 4 weeks full time Purpose of Role This is an exciting opportunity for someone to experience working on a large research project. The role will involve a combination of activities to support the ongoing and future research of EDICa, but the focus will be on a single mini-project involving quantitative data analysis and presenting this in different ways for different audiences. Duties may also include supporting data collection, literature reviews and publication development. This will be discussed between the line manager (Professor James Richards) and the intern. The successful candidate is likely to be pursuing an undergraduate degree in any relevant discipline and the role is suited to someone considering a career in research. Key Duties & Responsibilities We are seeking to appoint one intern for the equivalence of full time for four weeks to undertake the following key tasks: Work with EDICa members to undertake analysis of quantitative data. It is expected that the researcher will take an active role in developing research outputs, for example presenting quantitative data to enable easy comprehension, blog posts and reports. Undertake any other reasonable duties delegated to them by their line manager. To carry out research projects to a high standard by; Meeting planned milestones and deliverables. Reporting progress regularly to supervisors, both verbally and in written reports Keeping clear written records of work done and storing data in accessible formats according to a system agreed with the project supervisor. To collaborate with partners within the project and others as appropriate Essential & Desirable Criteria Essential A degree (or near completion) in social sciences e.g. business studies, human resource management, psychology, sociology, gender studies Experience of conducting analysis of quantitative data Experience of conducting analysis of qualitative data Demonstrated ability in presenting data in different ways. Desirable Experience of collecting data Experience of presenting findings in written or verbal forms Demonstrable understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and research. About the Team The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Caucus (EDICa) is a £4 million grant funded by UK Research and Innovation with the British Academy to accelerate equity across the research and innovation ecosystems in the UK through the creation of evidence bases, commissioning research projects and piloting interventions. The project is from January 2023 to December 2025. The EDICa team consists of 18 investigators from eight organisations and 3 support staff from Heriot-Watt. The investigators are researchers at different career stages from across a range of disciplines and lived experiences of marginalisation. The intern would most closely work with 5 postdoctoral research associates, Professor James Richards as line manager, and project support staff.
