The Post:
An opportunity has arisen in the Public Health Microbiology Division within the Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate of PHS. The work of the Public Health Microbiology Division aids the coordinated detection of infectious diseases, characterizes microbial pathogens and their variants efficiently and effectively, to support effective outbreak/pandemic management, treatments, and interventions, all within PHS ambitions to reduce the public health burden in Scotland.
The Quality and Training Lead is integral to developing, maintaining, and improving a new quality management system for the national Pathogen Genomics service. The postholder shall be a subject matter expert with responsibility for systems training and will lead all areas of Quality and Training at a national service level.
The Candidate:
The candidate shall have experience in implementing quality management/quality assurance systems. The postholder will develop working relationships and effective communication with a wide range of individuals, both clinical and non-clinical, internal and external to PHS, to ensure cooperative and collaborative planning and decision-making. Strong communication skills are essential, as the postholder will be responsible for interpreting and preparing timely communications.
The candidate shall work closely with Bioinformaticians, clinicians, scientists, data management, and business support colleagues across the PHS Public Health Microbiology Division and will collaborate with Scottish Reference Laboratories, IT partners, Government, and other stakeholder groups for this programme of work.
Location and Working Pattern:
The post is based in either Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Central Quay, Glasgow. We are currently hybrid working; therefore, you will be expected to spend time in both PHS offices as well as the option to work at home. Please note that PHS will be relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow in 2025. There will be an expectation to travel to local areas for some meetings and events.
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business needs, you may be required temporarily to work your normal contracted hours over 7 days, including weekends, to meet the needs of the service.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
