Reporting into the Head of Credit Underwriting, our Credit Partner will review and underwrite loan applications for our full range of property finance solutions. This will include specialist Buy To Let loans, bridging finance and commercial mortgages.
In this role, you will:
* Communicate and work effectively with Relationship Managers, Customers, Solicitors, Valuers and Brokers to gather information needed to make lending decisions.
* Review the suitability of loan applications based upon a detailed risk analysis and assessment of repayment capacity.
* Using your delegated lending mandate to underwrite property-backed lending transactions, further advances and account reviews in line with GB Bank Lending Policy, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and responsible lending principles.
* Ensure that all applications are structured to manage key risks, complete with appropriate conditions. Recording a robust rationale for each lending decision.
* Prepare cases that fall outside your personal lending mandate and presenting to appropriate mandate holders, including Credit Decisioning Committees where required.
* Proactively support post-underwriting case progression (e.g. oversight of property due-diligence and documentation), as well as supporting post-completion processing and case management (further drawdowns, covenant monitoring and account reviews).
* Reviewing the suitability of security, property valuations and other specialist reports. Liaising with valuation and legal panel firms, as appropriate.
* Identifying potential improvements to underwriting systems, policies, criteria and processes.
* Ensuring that MI and systems are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
Key areas of responsibility:
* Collaborate effectively with Relationship Managers, customers, solicitors, valuers, and brokers to obtain and assess all necessary information required to support sound lending decisions.
* Assess the suitability and viability of loan applications through detailed credit risk analysis, with a particular focus on borrower affordability, security strength, and exit strategies.
* Utilise your delegated credit mandate to underwrite property-backed lending proposals, further advances, and account reviews, ensuring alignment with GB Bank’s Lending Policy, regulatory obligations, Treating Customers Fairly (TCF), and responsible lending standards.
* Structure all facilities in a way that appropriately mitigates risk, applying relevant conditions and recording a clear, well-reasoned rationale for each credit decision.
* Prepare and present lending proposals that fall outside of your mandate to senior credit mandate holders and Credit Committees, ensuring they are fully informed and supported by comprehensive analysis.
* Provide proactive support for the progression of underwritten cases, including oversight of property due diligence, legal documentation, and liaison with internal teams to ensure smooth completion.
* Contribute to ongoing case management following completion, including covenant monitoring, drawdowns, and periodic account reviews to support portfolio quality.
* Review and assess the adequacy of proposed security, including property valuations and specialist reports, engaging with approved valuers and legal panel firms as necessary.
* Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting frameworks by identifying enhancements to credit policy, systems, criteria, and operational processes.
* Ensure all systems and management information (MI) are maintained with accuracy and timeliness to support strong governance and oversight.
A bit about you
* Demonstrable experience operating with a lending mandate in a commercial lending underwriting environment covering a variety of sectors, including Real Estate.
* Proven track-record in a SME/Corporate client focused credit environment, ability to respond to client needs and tailor service delivery to them.
* Recent in-depth knowledge of property transactions with an understanding of whole life-cycle risk management.
* Full understanding of commercial legal and valuation processes along with wider commercial risk issues.
