An Opportunity to Lead Technology Transformation for the University of Oxford as the Chief Digital & Information Officer - CDIO
Harvey Nash is delighted to be working with The University of Oxford, a university that has been ranked the world’s leading university for nine consecutive years. A place where centuries of tradition meet world-changing innovation, this is an opportunity to help shape the future while working in an inspiring environment that promotes excellence.
We are seeking an exceptional technology leader to drive digital transformation, innovation and progression. As Chief Digital & Information Officer (CDIO), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the university's digital future and culture, ensuring that technology enables world-leading teaching, learning and research. This is a pivotal time for the university, with a new people strategy and university strategic plan outlining the blueprint for future excellence.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, you will be responsible for defining and executing a cohesive digital, data, and cybersecurity strategy. You will lead a collaborative approach to innovation, enabling IT services, data infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to deliver value and systematically reduce complex technology debt. This role is not suited for a leader who aims to exercise control but rather for one who excels in collaboration, listening, engagement, and co-creation in partnership with the academic and professional services colleagues across the university. It demands a skilled influencer capable of unifying a devolved organisation, understanding the complexities of both UK and international higher education landscapes, while remaining dedicated to Oxford’s core academic mission of world-leading research and teaching.
Key areas of responsibility:
* Lead the University’s digital, data, and cyber strategy.
* Cultivate a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement while recognising and addressing the diverse needs of students, staff, and partners.
* Align digital initiatives with institutional priorities to drive efficiency and impact.
* Oversee the delivery of digital services across the university through strategic partnerships.
* Ensure robust cybersecurity and data governance.
* Balance investment in technology with sustainability, efficiency, and excellent service.
* Drive the reduction of technical complexity and legacy system debt to enhance agility and long-term efficiency.
We seek an accomplished executive level leader with extensive experience in large-scale enterprise environments, who has successfully led technology, digital and data-transformations in complex organisations. It is essential to have experience in leading teams, developing talent, utilising strategic planning, and digital transformation to contribute to the creation of a skilled workforce and implementing scalable, future-proof solutions. You will bring an understanding of higher education, strong financial acumen, and an ability to inspire and align diverse stakeholders.
This is a career-defining opportunity to shape the digital landscape of one of the world’s most prestigious institutions.
Apply now to embark on an extraordinary journey of transformation and achievement.
Closing date for applications – Midday Monday 28th April.
