Interim Legal Officer

Pay Rate: £20.86 per hour PAYE
Hours: 36 Monday - Friday, normal working hours
Assignment Duration: This opening assignment is for 3 months
City: KENSINGTON, LONDON
We are seeking an experienced Legal Officer to manage a caseload of up to 13 care cases. This role does not involve advocacy but will require strong skills in case preparation, legal advice, and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. Attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work under pressure are essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide guidance and assistance on various administrative and computerised systems to staff and other colleagues.
2. Ensure all documentation is accurate.
3. Support and assist senior colleagues in complex and highly confidential cases by providing organised, methodical, and current research. Support and work alongside them/deputise at necessary stages or independently, draft documents, attend on Counsel, attend meetings with the public and other professionals whether internal or external.
4. Independently evaluate, draft, and prepare all documents. Draft instructions to Counsel when external Barristers are brought in to represent the Council and instruct solicitors to act as agents on behalf of the Council and negotiate their fees.
5. Use various Council systems to research cases.
Key Requirements:
1. Law degree CILEX or equivalent or other legal qualification.
2. Fellowship of the Institute of Legal Executives.
3. Uses knowledge to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of possible longer-term implications.
4. Experience of dealing with complex caseloads.
5. Legal Officer experience.
6. Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to receive and present complex, sensitive or contentious data to individuals and groups, overcoming barriers to communication.
7. Ability to establish professional, effective working relationships with a range of partners/colleagues.
