Contract from January- October 2025Tate Recruitment are working alongside a local authority business in Brighton and Hove, looking for a Senior Permit Co-ordinator to join their City Transport team.
Job purpose
To ensure that the provisions of the Permit Scheme are implemented so that works on the street are coordinated and their impact minimised.
To lead and manage the day-to-day activities and development of the Permit Coordination team, ensuring that the services are provided efficiently and to excellent customer service standards.
Principal accountabilities
To ensure that all work carried out on the public highway by utility providers, developers, private individuals, and contractors are permitted and regulated.
Ensure permit scheme and legislative compliance by leading and managing the day-to day activities of the team responsible for the evaluation and approval of all road and street works activities.
Ensure the team minimises traffic disruption by liaising with utilities, neighbouring boroughs, councillors, Police, and any other stakeholder, including National Highways, regarding temporary and emergency road works and events.
Ensure that all temporary traffic orders and notices required to ensure public safety, traffic movement and expedient execution of works are initiated and processed in accordance with statutory requirements.
Ensure that the Fixed Penalty Notice generation, permit fee recovery reporting and budget discrepancies are identified and any issues reported.
To manage the investigation and reporting/acting upon any offences committed in contravention of The Highways Act.
Essential criteria
NRSWA accredited (supervisory level)
In depth user knowledge of Street Works software systems.
A strong understanding of the principal responsibilities of, and the key issues facing local government in highway and traffic legislation.
Experience
Experience in successfully managing a team within one or more of the specialist areas in the service e.g. Permit Scheme application and coordination, New Roads and Street Works Act, Highways Act.
Experience of planning, prioritising, and delivering own workload in a methodical way to effectively meet tight schedules and to assist other team members in a pressurised environment.
Experience working with internal and external stakeholders, such as works promoters and traffic management companies.
Advanced level of IT skills, including Street Manager, or other street works systems, word processing packages, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases.
