Role Overview
Our leading defence client is seeking a Complex Projects Lead to join their Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) Effects and Vulnerability team. This team determines the effectiveness of novel weapons, focusing on lasers. Engineers in this team develop mathematical models and simulations to predict the effectiveness of laser weapon systems on targets. Data gathered from trials and experiments investigating the physical effects of laser-matter interactions is used to calibrate and evolve these models, with outputs interpreted to understand target effects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leading small teams across multiple contracts including internally funded research and development, industry-partnered studies, and key tasks within high-profile defence projects.
2. Customer engagement to understand requirements.
3. Translating requirements into concrete activities and contributing to securing new business in this field.
Key Experience & Qualifications
1. Excellent leadership skills.
2. A proven track record of delivering on time, cost, and quality.
3. An appreciation of “trading requirements.”
4. The ability to manage budgets within a team environment.
5. Experience developing individuals and high-performing teams.
6. An understanding of bidding processes.
7. The ability to simplify and codify complex system interactions.
8. This role requires a candidate to be or become DV cleared.
9. Complex system design in a deeply technical environment.
10. Translating tacit customer requirements into concrete activities.
11. Experience with Ansys Fluent, COMSOL, or similar Multiphysics tools.
12. Proficiency in Matlab / Simulink.
