Job Description
We are seeking a seasonal Assistant Packhouse Manager to join our team. We pack over 1500 tons of strawberries from May to September. You will assist in leading the packing team, monitoring quality and ensuring orders are completed on time during the season.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee packing according to specified guidelines and ensure they are securely packaged for transport.
2. Organise and supervise teams.
3. Monitor quality and performance.
4. Maintain an organized work area, ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times.
5. Perform basic equipment repairs to ensure packing machinery is functioning correctly.
6. Utilise basic maths skills for measuring and calculating packing requirements accurately.
7. Monitor and record packaging stock.
8. Train new staff when required.
9. Assist with packing when necessary.
Skills and Experience
1. Previous experience in a fresh produce packing environment is essential.
2. Mechanical knowledge and familiarity with equipment repair is advantageous.
3. Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting and standing for extended periods is essential.
4. Excellent attention to detail.
5. Able to work under pressure.
6. Good level of spoken and written English.
7. Previous experience as an Assistant Manager/Supervisor is essential.
8. Good communication skills.
9. Basic computer skills and knowledge.
10. Experience with Proseal heat sealers and the Marco packing system is advantageous.
Other Information
1. Accommodation is available on site with parking, free laundry, a social area and gym.
2. This is a seasonal job from May to September. Work can be provided all year round but will be other general farm work, not in the packhouse.
3. Overtime will be paid after 48 hours at £17.16 per hour (18.32 from April 2025).
