We are looking for a Data Architect Lead who is highly motivated data driven and passionate to join us in our Data Enablement team, based in our Slough office in the UK .
About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated hands-on leader to work with teams within research and beyond, to shape and implement data architecture vision across research data landscape with the goal of accelerating early and preclinical pharmaceutical research
Who you’ll work with
The Life Science Data Architecture Lead is part of the Data Enablement team that is responsible for maximizing value extracted from data in discovery and pre-clinical research through the definition and executing of the data strategy. The team aims to improve data readiness/reuse, implementing better data management and knowledge management practices, ensuring proper data governance and overall increasing data literacy and data maturity levels across research teams.
What you’ll do
1. Define strategy and approach for data architecture across critical data types e.g. omics
2. Conduct landscape assessment of external data management systems/ vendors and conduct proof of concept/ pilot projects
3. Manage data ingestion from external data sources to develop and maintain data repositories.
4. Support data science community in providing sufficient data foundations/ repositories to develop data products.
5. Perform project management role to lead specific data initiatives.
6. Establish computational strategies to accelerate research activities.
7. Develop and implement data governance practices across the data landscape.
8. Communicate regularly at data, digital and leadership forums.
9. Liaise with business stakeholders to identify data challenges and opportunities for improvement to maximise data use/reuse.
10. Liaise with Data Leaders in all functions (in particular with UCB Data Office and IT teams),and facilitate the initiation and execution of cross-functional data initiatives….
I nterested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
11. BSc (+PhD as desirable) in natural sciences, computer science or engineering with strong skills & experience in computational biology/chemistry, statistics, informatics or mathematics, with demonstrated delivery in the life sciences space.
12. 5+ years’ experience in a research IT/Informatics role
13. Strong biological domain knowledge relevant to therapeutic discovery
14. Expertise in the data types generated and utilised in early and preclinical research (across various modalities including NCE, NBE and GT)
15. Experience in large data/ information curation, integration and management including commercial and open-source datasets.
16. Expertise in ontology, reference data and metadata management across life science/ research data types
17. Experienced managing or supporting R&D data management systems such as DNA Nexus.
18. Programming skills in relevant language(s) and scientific computing environments and tools (R / Rstudio/ Linux / Python / Jupyter / Scikit-learn / Spotfire / etc.)
19. Enjoy juggling competing priorities in a fast-moving research environment
20. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
21. Enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams
