An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Physiotherapy assistant to join the Orthopaedic physiotherapy team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This area specialises in the care of people who have experienced fractures, bony injuries or who have undergone orthopaedic surgery. Working under the guidance and supervision of qualified physiotherapists you will have the opportunity to implement and progress rehabilitation programmes to optimise patients recovery within the inpatient physiotherapy setting. You will need to be a good communicator, have strong interpersonal and organisational skills and the ability to work flexibly under your own initiative, as well as part of a team. You will be required to work with patients on a 1:1 basis, as well as carrying out duties to ensure the best service delivery to patients. Within your role, you may also be required to work within other inpatient Physiotherapy teams. You will be required to contribute to 7 day working, including bank holidays, on a rota basis. Physiotherapy Technician Role The Physiotherapy Technician will work under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist contributing to assessment and treatment programmes within an episode of care. The technician will carry a clinical caseload delegated by a qualified member of staff, and will work in various settings including ward, gym, and outpatients. Duties and Responsibilities To undertake all aspects of clinical duties and carry a delegated caseload of patients under the direct and indirect supervision of a qualified therapist. To work to departmental standard operating procedures and clinical protocols. To be responsible for implementing programmes of care, assessing patient progress, and suggesting changes to treatment plans within agreed competencies. To assess patients’ capacity, gain valid informed consent to treatment, and work within a legal framework where necessary. To assist the therapist in the assessment and progression of treatment for patients within a delegated caseload. To undertake physical treatment techniques utilizing developed manual skills. To use recognized outcome measures to evaluate the effect of therapy interventions. To participate in multidisciplinary/multi-agency team meetings to ensure the coordination of patient care. To ensure accurate clinical records are maintained in accordance with Trust guidance. To maintain communication links and collaborative working patterns with other multidisciplinary staff. Education, Training, and Research To educate patients/relatives/carers regarding the aims of therapy intervention. To maintain own competency to practice through continuing professional development activities. To participate in mandatory/statutory training as required by the Trust and national standards. Service Management To collaborate with supervising therapists to manage day-to-day workload and maintain service levels. To ensure clear communication exists within the Physiotherapy pathway team. Service Development To contribute to the development of a designated Therapy specialty in line with Trustwide Pathway development. Human Resource Management To demonstrate duties to other support workers and provide training to less experienced staff.
