At Brain kind Neurological Care Centre Lancashire (NCCL) we offer a dual service, providing a therapy led level 2 specialist neuro rehabilitation service and specialist neurological care to residents with a range of neurological conditions. We provide a holistic environment alongside a wide staff skill set, allowing us to optimise clients health and wellbeing, maximise their independence, and support their emotional and social needs.
Our new building provides an excellent working environment, offering the space for well-established group working; currently including breakfast group, upper limb group and rehab champions group. We have a unique opportunity to incorporate hydrotherapy and explore new and emerging technologies such as VR techniques into practice.
Main duties of the job
About the Role:
The Senior Occupational Therapist role is based within our level 2 neuro rehabilitation unit, working within our interdisciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include holistic assessments and treatment of complex neurological patients. Setting and reviewing SMART goals within formal and informal sessions, and supporting clients, families and staff to work towards these goals. You will be required to set realistic expectations for outcomes and communicate these effectively, to facilitate timely discharge planning. You will be required to engage in appropriate community activities, and complete access and home visits across Lancashire and South Cumbria to facilitate assessments and graded discharges.
Maintain detailed records in accordance with professional standards.
Apply evidence-based practice and specialised skills to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
Have a high level of communication skills to manage difficult conversations
Be able to identify / demonstrate conflict resolution skills
Collaborate effectively with team leaders, therapy and nursing teams, and the wider MDT.
Conduct comprehensive assessments to develop individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans.

At Brain kind Neurological Care Centre Lancashire (NCCL) we offer a dual service, providing a therapy led level 2 specialist neuro rehabilitation service and specialist neurological care to residents with a range of neurological conditions. We provide a holistic environment alongside a wide staff skill set, allowing us to optimise clients health and wellbeing, maximise their independence, and support their emotional and social needs.
Research opportunities are fostered within the service. We provide local supervision and development within the MDT and have working relationships with other Brain kind AHPs across the country to widen our peer support and learning opportunities.
We receive and screen referrals from professionals within inpatient and community settings across Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are interdisciplinary, with a growing team of registered nurses, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Neuro Psychology, Assistant Practitioners and Rehabilitation Assistants, and we receive weekly input from our Neuro Rehabilitation Consultant. In addition, our service offers the unique opportunity for clients to engage in Neuro Music Therapy, and have an onsite activities coordinator and volunteer team for engagement and interaction.

Utilise clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice to create specialised rehabilitation management care plans.
Assess and provide equipment to improve daily living skills for our service users.
Continuously monitor, review, and reassess clients' rehab plans and objectives against outcome measures.
Perform clinical risk assessments and develop risk management plans relevant to the clinical group.
Stay at the forefront of your field by exploring new emerging technologies and techniques.
About you:
Hold a degree in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent qualification.
Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Provide evidence of relevant postgraduate courses and CPD.
Possess substantial experience working in a rehabilitation setting.
Demonstrate experience working within a neurological setting / with neurological patients.
Demonstrate expertise in evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
Apply specialised knowledge in therapy assessments and interventions using complex clinical reasoning.
Have experience working at band 6 level or above.
Be able to work autonomously and effectively prioritise tasks.
Confidently assess and manage risk in relation to therapist/therapy service performance.
