An exciting opportunity has arisen within the London service for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Physiotherapist. You must have a minimum of 3 years experience working in the MSK field at B6/7 level. To succeed you must have excellent communication skills and a flexible, proactive approach to delivering first class MSK services. Training is provided and there are career development opportunities throughout the company.
Your application should demonstrate the ability to assist in clinical audits of the service and contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with the Physiotherapy management team and contribute to the mentoring and development of junior staff.
The right candidate will be expected to deliver a high standard of patient-centred care, possess a friendly and approachable attitude and apply outstanding team-working, communication and organisational skills to your daily practice.
Main duties of the job
1. To act as a specialist physiotherapist in MSKOutpatient conditions and manage patients referred to the Healthshare clinicsfor assessment, clinical diagnosis and management.
2. To assist in clinical audits of the Serviceand contribute to the development of the service in conjunction with the PhysiotherapyManagement Team.
3. To contribute to the mentoring anddevelopment of junior & senior staff.
4. To provide expert clinical leadership forthe physiotherapists within the team, playing a key role in ensuring that ahigh standard of physiotherapy is provided for patients, including those withcomplex multi-pathologies.

Job responsibilities
5. To beprofessionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of ownwork including the management of individual caseload, working within acceptedcodes of professional conduct and clinical guidelines to minimise clinicalrisk.
6. Todemonstrate advanced theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology, andpathology and utilise highly developed clinical reasoning skills to accuratelydetermine clinical diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of mixed andcomplicated conditions requiring outpatient physiotherapy and rehabilitation,resulting in realistic, patient centred goals and treatment plans in line withevidence-based practice.
7. To usespecialist clinical reasoning skills to screen referrals, to secondary care oraccident & emergency department, for serious pathologies such as tumour,infection, fracture, cauda equina syndrome. Seek support of senior clinicalcolleagues when faced with clinical terminology or presentations of a complexnature or out-with clinical experience.
8. To referfor diagnostics (X-Ray) and Interventional Radiology procedures such as guidedinjection, within the referral rights for the Local Physiotherapy Servicepathways.
9. To act inan advisory capacity to all clinical staff members in making an onward referralto additional services.
10. Toidentify patient concerns related to the clinical presentation and use currentevidence to respond to them. Advise patients and referrers on return to work,sports and other activities.
11. To keepcomprehensive records of activity in accordance with local and nationalrequirements using departmental IT software systems as required.
12. Todischarge patients appropriately and communicate this with their GPs orreferrers.
13. Toprescribe appropriate equipment, adhering to departmental policy, includingcompetence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by othersthrough teaching, training and supervision of workclosely with the Physiotherapy Management Team to facilitate the translation ofnational policy into local delivery and to provide an expert MSK perspective inrelation to the planning and delivery of an integrated, patient focused serviceacross the care pathway.
14. Tomaintain a clinical case load; whilst being flexible to service needs.
15. To participatein maintaining the training programme for the local MSK team, encouraging improvementand refinement of physical assessment and treatment of patients, and furtheringunderstanding of the conditions and their management.
16. To assistthe Physiotherapy Management team in the development and implementation of acomprehensive training and personal development plan for the MSK team in thelocal service.
17. Todemonstrate high quality research and development skills and lead clinicalresearch and audit for the local Physiotherapy Service.
18. To participate in clinicalgovernance as required. To implement policies and propose changes to practiceprocedures for own area and monitor implementation change through clinicalaudit.
19. To overseethe implementation of evidence based care including clinical outcome metricswithin the Physiotherapy Service. To useobjective markers/outcome measures to evaluate and refine clinicalpractice.
Communication
20. Toconsistently communicate highly effectively with staff, patients andcarers/family via clear verbal, non-verbal and written means to maximiserehabilitation potential. To use good communication skills of negotiation,motivation, explanation and reassurance and to gain informed consent. Confidentiality is maintained at all times.
21. To providecomplex and sensitive information, in simple terms about diagnosis, prognosis,concerns, treatment options and scientific information to patients, carers andothers (within and outside own profession), who may find such ideas difficultto understand due to differences in educational or language background, and whomay not want to accept information provided. Information needs to be clearlyconveyed without causing offence or distress. This must be done whilst ensuringthat patients have full understanding.
22. Tofacilitate patients attitudinal change towards their condition and thus engagethe patient with treatment choices and empower self-management.
23. Tocommunicate with all other healthcare professionals, and professional networksconcerning patient care and ensure good working relationships for the effectiveprovision of musculoskeletal management.
24. To reportcomplaints to the Physiotherapy Management Team in line with Healthshare formalcomplaints procedure.
25. To attendand actively participate in team's meetings as required. To initiate and /or maintain contacts withlocal and national clinical interest groups appropriate to the musculoskeletaland spinal fields.
26. To work incollaboration with other Healthshare Clinical Leads to provide continuityacross the both the local and national MSK services.
Management
27. Toundertake and assist in audits as required under clinical governance and alsofor service development.
28. To complywith all Healthshare policies and procedures and ensure that allphysiotherapists do likewise. This includes participation in the individualperformance appraisal system.
29. Toparticipate in both professional and clinical supervision this might includesupervising senior, less experienced physiotherapists or volunteers.
30. To supportthe Physiotherapy Management team as required.
31. Although anon-budget holder, the post holder will monitor and assess the needs of the servicein order to provide recommendations for service improvement, including theappropriate allocation of resources.
32. To workclosely with the Physiotherapy Management team to develop and refine thestrategic vision of Healthshare MSK Services.
Effort
33. To carryout assessments and treatments of musculoskeletal conditions, with moderatephysical effort involved, on a daily basis and to comply with Healthshare manualhandling policies.
34. To dealwith patients suffering with pain states, expectations and beliefs, that maylead to anxiety and aggressive / challenging behaviour with support from seniorclinicians where required.
35. Concentrationduring assessment, analysing documents and assessing patients as well as concentrationfor long periods daily. This may include reading electronic referrals andclinics with a high volume of new patients.
General
36. Toidentify and contribute to physiotherapy training needs regarding theassessment and management of patients with musculoskeletal pain anddysfunction.
37. Toidentify, initiate or participate in research projects relating tophysiotherapy or the general management of MSK pain and dysfunction.
38. To keepabreast of relevant clinical research pertinent to the job and implementevidence-based practice.
39. The postholder must be aware of individuals responsibilities under the Health andSafety at Work Act and identify and report, as necessary any untoward incidentor accident or potentially hazardous environment.
