We are currently seeking dedicated, compassionate and resilient Residential Support Workers to join our growing team, providing vital support to children and young people with complex mental health needs within a safe, nurturing residential setting.
About the Role:
As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people aged between 8 and 18 who have experienced significant trauma, emotional distress, or mental health difficulties. These children may present with behaviours that challenge, as a result of complex life experiences such as abuse, neglect or family breakdown.
Your primary responsibility will be to provide consistent care and emotional support, helping to create a structured and therapeutic environment in which the children feel safe, valued and understood. You'll work as part of a close-knit, multidisciplinary team that places the wellbeing and development of the child at the centre of everything.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with the young people in your care. Provide day-to-day support including personal care, mealtimes, education support, and recreational activities. Encourage and model healthy coping strategies, promoting emotional resilience and independence. Respond effectively to challenging behaviours using trauma-informed approaches and de-escalation techniques. Assist with the planning and delivery of individual care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments. Work collaboratively with other professionals including social workers, mental health practitioners, education staff and families. Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with regulatory requirements. Contribute to a safe, clean and positive living environment that feels like home. Take part in training, supervision and team meetings to support your personal and professional development.
About You:
This role is both emotionally and physically demanding but can be immensely rewarding for the right person. We're looking for individuals who are:
Empathetic, patient and emotionally resilient. Passionate about the wellbeing and development of children and young people. Excellent communicators, with the ability to build rapport and trust. Reliable, consistent and committed to making a long-term difference. Calm under pressure and able to think on your feet. Flexible to work a rota that includes evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.
Essential Criteria:
Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with emotional, behavioural or mental health needs. Basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Right to work in the UK. A full UK driving licence (desirable, but not always essential depending on location).
Desirable Criteria :
NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards this qualification). Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, attachment theory, or therapeutic parenting approaches. First Aid and de-escalation training (training can be provided).
