Description Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise to help shape and deliver its strategic infrastructure upgrade programme with contracts valued up to c.£670m to Costain over 15 years. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for reviewing the Project Content Documents (PCD) and proposed scope of works to assist in preparation of Bottom-up-estimates for the M&E elements of the schemes along with a Top-Down review from cost curves and Schedules of rates to assist in negotiation of the proposed Target Price. This is a home-based role with occasional travel as required LI-JA1 Responsibilities Join the estimating project team taking responsibility for the preparation of the mechanical estimate. Preparation of the detailed scope from drawings, specifications and a PCD that details the outline scope. Identify any errors/omissions from the scope within the PCD. Prepare abstract of material and sub-contract requirements for sourcing and pricing. Technical and commercial appraisal of material and subcontractor quotations to ensure full coverage of the scope is priced. Preparation of analytical estimates including the detailed appraisal of the Mechanical (& Electrical ideally) packages and attendances required. Contribute to the identification of risk and pricing of risks throughout the bid. Attend site visits ad hoc during tender period. Contribute towards the preparation of the M&E “Tender Book” to collate and present the Mechanical estimate. Prepare Top-Down-Estimate using the Framework agreed schedules of rates and Cost curves for benchmarking as part of the review process Qualifications Degree level qualified / equivalent in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering related discipline Preferably Chartered Previous experience working as a Mechanical Estimator for a major mechanical/electrical contractor in the water sector. Experienced pricing medium to large value mechanical (& electrical ideally) engineering projects Previous experience in wastewater/sewerage treatment and process engineering (essential) Previous experience in clean water would be an advantage Familiar with Civil Engineering Method of Measurement Customer focused, open and honest, safe and environmentally aware, team player, accountable Excellent communication skills and a “can-do” approach at all times Must be commercially aware and a lateral thinker with a knowledge of various Forms of Contract Good technical understanding of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and the ability to promote alternative solutions. Must be numerate, accurate and self-checking Knowledge of CCS ‘Candy’ Estimating system would be an advantage albeit training will be given Full driving licence
