Job summary An opportunity has arisen within the South Manchester Podiatry Service for a full time Band 7 to work in an integrated role between the acute Rheumatology department and community services, providing specialist care for adults with inflammatory arthropathies. This is a 50:50 split post providing input to acute Rheumatology clinics and to the community Podiatry service. MFT is one of the largest rheumatology providers in the UK. The Trust is commissioned by NHS England under the specialised rheumatology framework. Currently, the rheumatology service is organized into two divisions: Central Manchester (Manchester Royal Infirmary and North Manchester General Hospital) and Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham (WTWA) divisions. The successful candidate will work alongside a large team of 8 Consultant Rheumatologists who work in theWythenshawe, Trafford, Withington and Altrincham (WTWA) hospitals. Clinics are well supported by middle grade doctors including specialist trainees, speciality doctors, an internal medicine trainee and a general practice trainee. The multidisciplinary team includes this podiatry post, an Advanced Practitioner, 10 specialist nurses, two specialist pharmacists, two specialist physiotherapy advanced practitioners, and a specialist occupational therapist. There is a strong focus on multi-disciplinary and collaborative working. Regular multidisciplinary meetings include a team meeting for CPD, radiology meeting and biologics meeting. Main duties of the job The Rheumatology clinics will be primarily based at Withington and Trafford hospitals. Responsibilities will include triage of referrals from Rheumatology colleagues via electronic patient record and review of new and review patients working in clinic along- side consultants. The majority of patients referred for review have inflammatory arthritis but some patients with connective tissue disease and vasculitis may also be referred. In the community the post holder will be working alongside other highly experienced podiatrists and will have the knowledge and skills to assess and manage adults with rheumatoid arthritis and other connective disorders, including diabetes in community settings. The role involves travelling between community sites, including home visits. We are keen to attract candidates interested in service development such as the development of pathways for referral to community and secondary care podiatry. There are various opportunities including participating in undergraduate education with the fourth-year medical students who attend the Rheumatology department. We also encourage development of colleagues such as undertaking or updating non-medical prescriber qualifications and acquisition of new skills in diagnostic requests and imaging.
