Technique Recruitment Solutions are working on behalf of a leading specialist Engineering service client, who are recruiting for an experienced 3D CAD Engineer with R&D Responsibility.
JOB TITLE: 3D CAD Design Engineer
REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager / Design Manager
JOB PURPOSE: To design custom transportation product solutions with CAD software for production in on-site manufacturing facility. Design solutions will be developed through close liaison with customers and in accordance with agreed design principles and procedures. To assist with R&D projects from concept to completion, which may include product development, researching materials, suppliers, and systems.
SALARY: Based on experience
HOURS: Basic hours 9:00am - 6:00pm Mon-Fri, lunch 1:00-1:30pm. Due to seasonal variations within the business, these hours are regularly extended in the winter months or may be slightly reduced in the summer.
HOLIDAYS: 32 days per annum, including 8 days for public holidays, 3 or 4 days to be taken over Christmas shutdown.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. CAD Engineer:
Produce custom engineering solutions for the clients product range with quotation support through to final product manufacture within our in-house production facility. Predominantly using 3D AutoCAD software in accordance with agreed design principles and procedures. Autodesk Inventor Software currently used. Produce works orders to communicate design and component specification to production functions and external suppliers. Product design and works orders must be undertaken in accordance with agreed design principles and assembly procedures defined in company manual. Perform research as instructed to help push the company forward, specifically to identify and develop new product developments, research new material specifications for use in production and support applications for R&D tax credit. Support and contribute to a team effort for continuous product improvement.
2. Working with Customers & Suppliers:
Carry out direct sales activities from incoming customer enquiries. Liaise directly with customers to establish requirements, develop design solutions including occasional off-site visits and possible trips abroad to assess customer requirements and measure equipment to be transported. Raise, communicate and negotiate new product quotations through use of software packages in line with procedures and approval of senior staff. Maintain customer enquiry records and ensure an excellent level of customer service is offered at all times.
3. Working with Client:
Support and work with all CAD Designers and Sales Staff. Assist when requested, all other departments and sundry tasks: machining, hands-on production, finance and purchasing, and supplier liaison to ensure an efficient and effective working team. Liaise closely with production functions to resolve design queries and ensure finished products meet specified standards of design and quality. Actively seek and take in-house opportunities for skill and knowledge development. Follow clients H & S procedures at all times as defined in Company Handbook. Adhere to and assist in the continuous improvement of Quality procedures and policies outlined in our ISO9001 Quality Manual and Certification criteria.

PERSONAL SITUATION:
Able to commute reliably to office base. Must have a flexible approach to working hours and be able to work extended hours on occasions when required. Must have clean or near clean driving licence.
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:
The ideal candidate will have a mechanical engineering degree or equivalent practical experience, with excellent material knowledge. Has a working knowledge of both 2D and 3D CAD software. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and specifying aluminium and steel fabrications as well as designing tooling for glass fibre and carbon fibre products. Understands and follows the principles of design and engineering. Good communication skills - able to communicate verbally and via written media. Able to work to tight deadlines.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Must be adept in use of 3D CAD (ideally Inventor), with knowledge of 2D AutoCAD. Working knowledge of Microsoft packages - particularly Excel, Word, Internet and email. Additional computer-based knowledge would be an advantage.
LITERACY AND NUMERACY:
Able to understand basic business finance concepts and calculations. Must be a competent writer of business emails, quotations, and proposals.
BUSINESS AND SELLING SKILLS:
Must be an excellent telephone communicator of technical data with ability to deal face-to-face with customers. Able to demonstrate success and experience in a technical sales related background.
SUPERVISION ABILITY:
Though internal staff supervision is not initially part of the job, responsibility and opportunity could grow with the development of the business. Some people-management skills, experience, and natural ability will be useful.
