Location: Portsmouth (HM Naval Base) Service Area: Service Delivery, Alongside Services (ALS) Hours of Work: 37 Per week Salary: Competitive What You’ll be doing: The Port Operative – Lifting AP role is a specialist position requiring an in-depth knowledge and experience of lifting operations. The role holder will be working in Alongside Services and will also be required to undertake all aspects of the Port Operative role with a view of directly reporting to the Managing AP. Day to day tasks will include responsibility for assessing heavy lift tasks and completing AP referrals as directed by the Managing AP, with the addition of consultation with slingers to ensure the task is fully understood and conducted in a safe manner. Coupled with lifting responsibility, you’ll be planning complex lifts and preparing drawings for lift plans whilst ensuring Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Lift Plans are followed. You’ll Have: Desirably, you’ll currently hold a recognised Appointed Person qualification, be fully conversant with Liccon, LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998 and BS7121and have competence with MS Office and smart phone use. With experience as a Lifting AP, you’ll have worked with, formulated and delivered Intermediate and complex lift plans Lift Plans and you’ll hold a full UK driving license. Additionally, you’ll be a competent, proactive and positive team player, have good understanding of the different areas of Portsmouth Naval Base and how they work together and have the professional ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the RN and other stake holders. About you: You’ll have an in-depth knowledge of heavy lift processes and procedures, and a thorough understanding of Lifting Equipment and Lifting Operation Regulations and a working knowledge of British Standards in lifting. With experienced in managing lifts with safety being paramount, you’ll be able to evidence proactivity in your approach, competency in problem solving to resolve issues and be especially customer focussed/driven with your approach to daily business.
