The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, hardworking and self-motivated individual to join our corporate Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team. You will work closely with others in the team to provide an effective and efficient health, safety and wellbeing service across the Council, schools and with key partners and stakeholders.
To support the service at an operational level you will be required to assist with or undertake; audits/inspections, investigate accidents, incidents, and occupational ill health, design and deliver briefings, presentations, and training sessions.
You will also provide a full range of professional advice and guidance on health and safety matters to stakeholders in services across the Council as well as schools.
This is a career grade post with different levels of job demands and responsibilities for each grade. This has been designed to enable employees to progress in terms of incremental knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience.
Candidates that meet the minimum essential requirements of a higher level, may start on a higher grade.
About You
Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least 12 months relevant experience in a health and safety environment, ideally within a large, complex organisation; have a sound knowledge of health and safety procedures, practices and relevant legislation, best practice and standards of compliance.
A NEBOSH General Certificate is essential, a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Applicants will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and good interpersonal skills to influence, persuade and motivate others to adopt safer working practices. Applicants must also be able to present self-confidently and able to deliver briefings / training.
You should be able to prioritise and organise your workload, to work to deadlines and have an eagerness and enthusiasm to work with wider colleagues across the organisation to continually improve safety culture and behaviours and promote health and safety standards.
Alongside this you should have knowledge and experience of undertaking workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards and make recommendations for any corrective action required.
The role also involves travel around the borough, so a full driving license is an essential requirement. An essential car user allowance is included.
Postholders will also benefit from hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
