Qualifications:
You must hold an approved qualification of level 3 or above and have more than two years experience in an early years setting.
Job Description:
Role: Room Manager
Responsible to: Manager/Deputy Manager
Responsible for: Management of all staff in their area and provision of children.
Purpose of the job: To manage and lead the team assigned to your room. To work as a key person and provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting. To ensure partnerships with families are effective with robust communication in place. To promote and be aware of the nursery policies and procedures.
1. To plan the 'Our Approach' using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.
2. To ensure the nursery is running to correct standards.
3. To liaise with other members of staff, supervise and organise those for whom you are responsible.
4. To set up the room(s) for the daily programme and to help tidy away accordingly.
5. To have a sound knowledge of Ofsted guidelines, the interdisciplinary guidelines for child protection, and Health and Safety requirements.
6. To carry out office duties in line with answering the phone.
7. To work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
8. To be responsible for a group of key children and ensure their Learning Journeys are in line with the EYFS.
9. To work in partnership with the SENCO to support children with individual needs.
10. To carry out observations on children.
11. To advise the Manager of any concerns over children, parents, or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
12. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.
13. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.
14. To support mealtimes within the setting.
15. To prepare light snacks and meals if required.
16. To carry out daily risk assessments.
17. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings, and appraisal meetings (including those that take place outside of working hours).
18. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your development.
19. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families, or other staff; which is acquired as part of the job.
20. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting's operational policies and procedures, e.g., health and safety, fire precautions, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting, etc.
21. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly.
22. To ensure all equipment is stored in the appropriate areas.
23. To promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers.
24. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager/Deputy Manager and 3rd in Charge, in accordance with the setting's business plan/objectives.

Person Specification:
1. Willingness to learn.
2. Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.
3. Previous experience of working with young children.
4. Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.
5. Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
6. Knowledge of child protection procedures.
7. An understanding of play-based approaches to children's learning and development.
8. Commitment to equal opportunities.

10. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
11. Level 4 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent, and a commitment to obtaining a Foundation Degree.

Second Steps Day Nursery - Althorne is a full day care setting, taking children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. We are open Monday - Friday, 7am to 7pm all year round (excluding bank holidays).
The aim of our nursery is to provide a happy, homely environment for all children in our care with an emphasis on individual attention and learning through play. Our philosophy is that a child should be happy, safe, and healthy in a stimulating and educational environment. We aim to work in partnership with all parents to provide a service that will reach their individual needs. We acknowledge that children's interests may change, but also know that if we tune into their play, extend, and introduce new interests that they will feel included, valued, and thrive within the environment we create for children each day.
