St Michael's Hospice (Hastings & Rother)
Exciting opportunity at an exciting time! In East Sussex, we have progressed with our vision of working as a team of consultants across our locality with opportunities for extended peer support and internal rotation of duties.
Main Duties of the Job
Across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which includes 2 acute hospitals (Eastbourne DGH and Conquest), Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), and St Michaels and St Wilfrids Hospices, we currently have a team of 8 consultants, and we now have a vacancy to become 1 of 9.
This vacant post is based at St Michaels Hospice in Hastings, and the initial job plan is for full-time work over the Hospice and Hospital, initially leading care in the In-Patient Unit with one day a week at Conquest Hospital in Hastings. Those wanting to work less than full-time will be welcomed; the Hospice has agreed to match NHS terms and conditions, and you will also have an honorary NHS contract. A full DBS check is required.
Why Join Us?
We offer a great location by the sea with numerous opportunities for all ages, including those with new families. We have a very supportive consultant group and an excellent, friendly Hospice multi-disciplinary team. There is a low frequency of on-call duty (second on is 1 in 10 across 3 Hospices). Opportunities to develop in any area of interest (education, clinical governance, leadership, research) are available. St Michaels Hospice has announced the building of a new hospice in the next seven years, providing a great opportunity to influence the future caring environment.
About Us
At St Michaels Hospice, we offer a friendly, team-oriented work environment, a good pension scheme with the option to continue any existing NHS pension scheme membership, an Employee Assistance Programme, Benenden Healthcare, up to 29 days annual leave plus bank holidays, subsidised employee meals and free refreshments, free parking, supportive supervision, and a proactive Education Department to support your development. Hospice employees also qualify for a Blue Light Card with access to a huge array of discounts.
Job Responsibilities
This is a new post building on vacant hours across both the Hospice and new Consultant hours at the local NHS Trust. The post-holder will join an organization that is determined to support the end-of-life care needs of the population of Hastings and Rother and work collaboratively with the NHS, Adult Social Care, and other hospices to ensure good end-of-life care in any setting.
The appointee will be a medically qualified graduate who has completed an appropriate programme of higher professional training and has wide general training and experience in Palliative Medicine. Applicants must hold, or be within six months of attaining, a CCT in the specialty.
The appointee will be based at St Michael's Hospice and will work across hospital and hospice inpatient and community settings, providing non-resident on-call clinical commitment with a one in ten frequency. This is shared with neighbouring hospices and Consultants based in the Supportive and Palliative Care Team in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Consultant in Palliative Medicine will be employed by the hospice, and their terms and conditions will reflect the NHS Consultant terms and conditions. Applications from those wishing to work less than advertised hours or on a job share basis will be considered. St Michael's Hospice is very supportive of flexible working arrangements.
