Summary:
Operates and services a variety of motorized equipment and hand tools. Performs manual labor and general airfield maintenance and construction as directed. Work is primarily performed outdoors, in all seasons and weather conditions, in close proximity to aircraft, on and around runways and taxiways.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operates and services a wide variety of motorized equipment used in general airfield construction and/or maintenance;
2. Operates light duty and heavy duty trucks;
3. Operates heavy motor equipment such as power sweepers, backhoe, front-end loaders and tractors;
4. Operates or rides in trucks and utility vehicles in the performance of job duties and to get from one job to the next; includes off-site locations;
5. Uses hand and/or motorized equipment such as chainsaws, saws, brush cutters, weed trimmers and grinders;
6. Responsible for the proper care and use of assigned motor equipment, including washing, and checking fuel and fluid levels, tire pressure, lights and general condition;
7. Required to request repairs for equipment when needed;
8. Makes minor emergency repairs to the motor equipment and hand tools;
9. Performs manual labor as required to conduct airfield maintenance;
10. Accomplishes basic trade and construction work, and assists the trades when required;
11. Responsible for proper and safe use of equipment;
12. Strictly adheres to security provisions at all times, including entrance and egress from gates;
13. Communicates on two way and aircraft radios according to procedure;
14. Performs snow plowing, sanding and deicing using large trucks and a variety of motorized and hand operated equipment;
15. Snow removal and/or snow emergency responsibility;
16. Must be able to normally be available to work weather emergencies after the regular workday;
17. Other related duties may be assigned.

Generally, none. May be designated from time to time as point person.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
1. Must possess at all times, a valid Rhode Island CDL Class B and Hoisting/Engineer Certificate (Restricted)(to be attained within 6 months of employment);
2. Must have basic knowledge of general maintenance methods routinely utilized at an airport;
3. Must demonstrate skill in operation and servicing of heavy trucks and motor equipment;
4. Must have the ability to make emergency minor repairs to equipment;
5. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
6. Able to comprehend and follow strict rules and safety procedures.
Education/Experience:
1. High school diploma or GED;
2. Experience (2 years or more) operating/servicing heavy motor equipment; or
3. A combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the education and experience described above.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Must attain Hoisting Engineer (Restricted) within 6 months of employment;
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
1. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds from the ground to waist level several times per day;
2. Must be able to work at moderate heights and on a ladder required;
3. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time as snow removal during winter storms is a necessity;
4. Must be able to operate on minimal sleep for extended periods of time (during winter storm events);
5. Must be available for weather emergencies after normal shift or workday.

6. The use of safety equipment such as, but not limited to, seatbelt restraints, hard hats, and goggles may be routinely required.
