Main duties of the job
1. To provide a high standard of nursing care for infants, Children and Young People, within a family-centered environment, in accordance with the ward philosophy.
2. To provide support for junior colleagues, students, Clinical Sisters, and Ward Manager, adhering to national and trust guidelines.
3. To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to take charge of any nursing shift as required.

Job responsibilities
1. To co-ordinate and provide skilled nursing care (without direct supervision) to children and young people, in accordance with responsibilities under the NMC Code of Conduct.
2. To be competent to manage and implement the assessment, planning, delivery & evaluation of a high standard of evidence-based care to a group of infants, children, young people & their families.
3. To deliver effective discharge planning of children, liaising with other professionals and agencies as required.
4. Promote family-centered care and act as an advocate for children.
5. Maximise opportunities for health promotion and health education for patients and their families.
6. To provide nursing care to high dependency children during both the acute phase and when stabilised.
7. To provide support to students and perform Mentor role or attend Mentor and Assessing Course in line with NMC standards.
8. Provide escort in the transfer of children to other health care providers as required.
9. Provide telephone advice for parents requesting information & support.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Higher Diploma/ Degree RSCN/ RNC/ R Children & Young Peoples Nurses
* Evidence of CPD
* Numeracy and IT skills
Experience
* All paediatric nurses, including newly qualified
* 12 months current experience in acute Paediatrics

* Demonstrates knowledge of child development
* Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based practices
* Demonstrates understanding of clinical audit and clinical effectiveness
* Able to effectively plan and delegate duties
* Able to manage personal time effectively
