Job Location: Thorndale House Children's Home, Alnwick, Northumberland
Do you want a challenging and rewarding career with real opportunities to change the lives of young people living in a children's home? If you are dynamic, dedicated, and enthusiastic, then we want to hear from you.
Who we are:
NCC operates 5 children's homes including a national secure children centre with education. Overall, the service employs approximately 200 care staff and 30 support services staff across the 5 sites. Our homes accommodate 25 young people aged 6 - 17. Our main aim is to offer an exceptional family-focused caring environment where children and young people can feel safe and thrive to meet their full potential.
The service is inspected by Ofsted on a yearly basis. Currently, Thorndale House Children's Home is rated as Good. It is crucial that everyone in our team is committed and motivated to meeting the needs of our young people and has high aspirations for every young person we live and work with.
Why choose us:
Working at Thorndale House is not just a job; it's one of the most rewarding career choices you will make. Our work is challenging and physical, but if you have the drive, dedication, resilience, and passion, then you will enjoy an exciting and stable career with us.
It is important that our children are supported by adults with a range of professional and personal experiences, ensuring they have access to positive role models who can offer a range of skills and values to support our children to achieve their best possible outcomes in life.
We encourage applications from people with experience in a similar discipline, but this is not essential as we appreciate that there are adults that hold transferable skills and values that meet the requirements of a suitable candidate but have never had the privilege of working directly with children and young people.
We offer a comprehensive induction and shadowing process for all new staff, excellent training and development opportunities throughout your employment. Northumberland County Council acknowledges the importance of legacy planning, ensuring that our managers of the future are developed from within.
The staff-centered approach is supported by the offer of regular one-to-one sessions to discuss and reflect on your work. As part of Northumberland County Council, you also benefit from a family-friendly policy, pension contributions, leisure and culture discounts at council venues, and a range of other discounts.
There are progression opportunities within the service.
The role:
At Thorndale House, we have four young people (aged between 6 and 17 years old) able to live with us at one time. These young people are here through no fault of their own. They have often had a troubled and traumatic start to their young lives, but through positive and constructive interventions by a skilled and committed staff team, they are supported to address their emotional, social, and educational needs to enhance their life chances.
Your personal qualities and life experience will help us create an environment of reflection, challenge, personal attention, and specialist help. Your talents will help young people develop the values, skills, knowledge, self-control, and direction that will enable them to fulfill their potential.
This role requires you to work to a shift pattern which includes early and late shifts. There is an enhancement paid between 8pm and 6am and weekends, starting at £3,003 up to £3,291 per year depending on spinal point (figures based on 37-hour contract). There are also sleep-in duties required, with payment of around £40 per sleep-in.
You must have a good general education and be willing and able to undertake relevant training. You will be supported to complete the Diploma Level 4 in Residential Child Care, which is a requirement of the job role.
You will work under the direction of the Assistant Home Manager to ensure quality, safe, and effective care of each young person.
