Job Description
Legal & General is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the architecture, design, and development of our comprehensive monitoring and observability toolset. This pivotal role involves supporting multiple product and service teams on a fractional basis, working closely with architects, product owners, and engineers across the organisation.
The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of L&G’s infrastructure, policies, and standards, and will leverage this expertise to empower teams to make swift, informed decisions. This role is crucial in ensuring our observability toolset remains scalable, secure, and reliable. The successful candidate will provide strategic recommendations and collaborate with teams to ensure the seamless implementation of monitoring solutions.
What you'll be doing:
* Spearheading the design of monitoring and observability across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with Legal & General’s broader technology architecture and strategy to support business objectives.
* Designing and implementing mechanisms for rapid, delegated architectural decision-making within product and service teams.
* Developing and effectively communicating strategies, solution designs, key design decisions, and approaches to stakeholders.
* Serving as an authority on Legal & General’s infrastructure policies, standards, and frameworks.
* Leading the assessment and decision-making process for new technology and infrastructure choices.
* Determining when decisions should be escalated to organisation-wide architectural governance forums.
Qualifications
Who we're looking for:
* Expertise in monitoring and observability technologies, including networks, Cloud (AWS and Azure), data centers, instrumentation, application performance, and capacity management.
* Comprehensive knowledge of infrastructure technologies across hosting, networks, applications, middleware, end-user computing, and information security.
* Experience with Service Management Frameworks, FinOps, and Enterprise Architecture Tooling.
* Proven track record in designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions.
* Experience in large-scale instrumentation and observability programs.
* Strong background in coordinating and delivering large architecture projects.
* Experience mentoring less experienced architects.
* Ability to build consensus for design decisions.
