Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Automotive Powertrain) Hybrid (Leamington Spa) £45,000 - £55,000 stocks Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer? Are you seeking your next challenge in the EV/Powertrain Engineering field? Do you aspire to make a positive impact through your work? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you… Make a Real Difference: Engineer a Sustainable Future at OX Delivers Do you want a career that tackles global challenges? At OX Delivers, we're empowering communities and driving positive change through improving access to transport. We're seeking passionate individuals to shape the future of transportation. This is your chance to develop groundbreaking technology with a direct impact on people's lives. More Than Just a Startup, We're a Mission-Driven Force Empower Communities. Drive Change. Join OX Delivers We're not your average tech startup. We're targeting the 3 billion people in the Global South who lack access to reliable transportation, hindering their economic opportunities. Our innovative electric OX trucks are changing the game. Building a Brighter Future, One Sustainable Delivery at a Time The lack of transport infrastructure leads to food spoilage and limited economic growth for farmers and entrepreneurs across the Global South. OX Delivers is building a self-reinforcing cycle of economic empowerment and social impact, starting with markets across Africa. The Heart of Our Mission: Technology with Impact The heart of what we do is technology: the OX truck and the supporting digital ecosystem. The OX truck is the world’s first electric truck purpose-built for dirt roads which enables profitable logistics. Its simple design is focussed on total lifetime costs, in-market repairability and serviceability, and for manufacture in local markets. Are you ready to engineer a brighter future? Join the OX Delivers team What you can expect from the role We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team as we advance the development of our trucks. Our mission involves addressing the unique challenges of designing an efficient off-road EV that performs reliably in emerging markets across Africa. Fortunately, we benefit from quick feedback, high-quality data collection, and an iterative development approach. Our organization is structured into three teams: Cab, Chassis, and Powertrain. You will be part of the Chassis team, which follows agile methodologies and works in three-week sprints. The Chassis team includes three engineers, a product owner/engineer, and a dedicated Buyer. You will work collaboratively to create mechanical designs and manufacturing specifications for future OX truck models. We have already developed four prototype trucks. You will work closely with our engineering teams to identify optimal chassis solutions based on insights gained from these prototypes. Though we are still in the development phase, we have a robust foundation of real-world data and driver feedback from our prototypes to guide our decisions. This is an exciting period as we prepare to scale up to small-scale production in 2025. We use a modular approach, including in our chassis design strategy, leveraging existing parts and technology and creating custom solutions only when necessary. We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements. However, our engineers value onsite collaboration in our workshop, and we also have extensive farmland for testing our trucks. The experience you’ll need to be effective We are looking for an experienced mechanical design engineer who can quickly take ownership of tasks and projects in a development environment. Expertise in CAD is essential; we use OnShape but welcome experience with any major platform. It is crucial to demonstrate your ability to make design decisions based on user data and feedback, with production scalability in mind. We highly value your previous experience in designing powertrain solutions, particularly in addressing challenges related to batteries and electric drive units. Experience with simulation is also advantageous. If you are not familiar with agile teams, you must show an understanding of this approach and an enthusiasm to adopt it. There Are More Than a Few Reasons to Join Us This is an exciting time to join our team as we take the trucks from development to production-ready prototypes. You’ll have significant ownership of the design of one of the most important elements of our trucks, the powertrain. You’ll have influence over our ways of working and approach within the team. The impact of your work will be quickly apparent through our fast feedback loops and data-led iterative approach. We offer hybrid working, with most staff spending 2 or 3 days per week in our office doing collaborative work. We also offer flexible working practices so you can do the school run or pop to the dentist when you need to without stressing. Our teams track progress, not timesheets. All staff receive share options so you share in our success. We offer unlimited holiday, so essentially, if your team agrees, you can have it OX Delivers will never discriminate on the basis of gender, race, colour, religion or belief, sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, or any other protected class.
